I find the stock headlights to be really really weak. I've installed Silverstar Ultras for High/Low beam. And I've installed Some top of the line Sylvania bulbs for fog lights.

Last winter it was pretty tough driving around. Where I live; in the winter we only get like 4-5hr of daylight, so most of my commuting is done in the dark.

I was hesitating on getting Aux lights, because I didn't want to change the look of the Jeep by putting a Light bar or something in the front of the grill. So I came here asking you guys for help.

Is it possible to install 2 lights behind the grill? Is there enough room?

And also if anyone has already done this, can you please post some pictures and your light specs.

The lights I'm planning on installing are Hella Rallye 4000i Compact Series 12V/35W Xenon Driving Beam Lamp with Internal Ballast.

My plan was to install HID lights, but they produce too much glare and almost blind the oncoming traffic (or in rearview mirror). I think the best way to install HIDs is to use a projector housing, so you would have to do a projector retrofit. Or you can find the proper reflector (like the one in this HID light).

I absolutely have to do something about the lighting before winter, even if I have to get a bar on the bumper.

If you put them behind the grille you will block a lot of the light output. The grille slats are very big. I'm sure you could mount them there if you really wanted to, not sure how though ... Remember it's a Jeep, they don't look good without light bars and lights :lol:

I'm fabing a light bar for my 02. I have lights but they need replaced. I might have enough material for a second one. 8-)

I was planning on customizing the grill I would install the lights and remove the part of the grill that covers the lights, in a way that it still looks good.

But yea I might have to install a light bar on the bumper or something.

yup, but I can get them for around $600-$750 for a pair from one of my friends (hopefully). And you really have to see these lights in person, they'll blow your mind. And these are only the medium size, they come in one size larger and one size smaller.

I think Hislop has lights behind his grill. Not sure if they're much of use though. Pretty hard to notice too unless you know about it.

And that's crazy for lights. They better be the best thing out there. Ever look into the led lights? I think tjkj has those on his KJ, and they might be small enough that at the right angle they can fit between the slots.

Check rigid led lights out. They make a small one that will fit in the grille slots. Might be one way to go.

I have a set of duallys on mine, they're pretty bright.
