Post subject:  Installing the daystar 2" updated* pictures
So today I started installing the daystar lift. I must say it is much more challenging than I first thought. Operator head space and timing led me to make a few timely mistakes. I almost have the front finished but as I was finishing the front I dropped one of the 4 strut bolts in the engine bay and it landed in my skid plate. I will not have it finished it the 4 hour timeline the instructions placed but it will be done tomorrow. I'm using a shop on ft Benning and signing out tools and waiting to use the press and the spring compressor ate up some of the time I had to work on it today. I'm looking forward to finishing it and posting some pictures for you guys tomorrow. I also wanted to not rush and damage stuff. I wish daystar would include new strut bolts instead of having to press out the old ones and labeling the top strut plate left and right. I did install the drivers side on the passenger strut so that was another hold up. Just things to keep in mind if you guys plan on doing the install. All and all it will cost me about 20 bucks to use the shop so I guess I have that to be happy for. Wish me luck :BANANA:

If you ever need to switch back to the oem plates the studs most likely wont go back in tight enough to keep them from turning. Turned in to a royal pita for me when i switched to lift springs.
The rear will be easy peasy compared to the front if you haven't done it already.
Need any help just ask, i can do it blindfolded now :ROTFL:

Oh, there is no driver-passenger side shocks or springs, just the top plates. So you were fine the first time.

Yeah I had the drivers top plate on the strut while I still had that side of the vehicle assembled. I guess now in retrospect I could have left it but I'm they type of person I do things one section at a time. Thanks of the heads up it could have saved me a bit of time. Yeah now I know what's what so doing it again would be a breeze

I must say I am so happy with the end result. In my opinion I feel it handles better than stock. I think it handled to much like a car, now it's a little more stiff.. Feels like a jeep to me now

I must say, your Renegade looks good, Roastbeef! Congrats on getting the lift installed and hitting the trail today. :JEEPIN: It would be useful if you could update this thread periodically with your impressions of how the Daystar lift handles and if/how anything changes over time. Enjoy! :D

I have to work out a few kinks still. I hear a rattle coming from the rear end of the jeep when I hit bumps. I'm not sure what it is yet. I climbed under and took a look and everything seems tight. I guess I will have to do a once over everything back there and try to pinpoint the problem. You think it looks good now you should see it soon, I want to make the exterior similar to the liberator 2 I think painting the grill to match the bumpers in next.

Salsa Red! I was THIS CLOSE to getting one of those instead of my Deep Water Blue Rene, but the dealership wanted to screw me over BAD on trade in value and the price of the Jeep. So I found this DWB at another dealership and told them what they wanted... they beat the price by THOUSANDS.

Plus I like this color better anyway. :lol:

They called back a few days later, told them the deal was already done and I told them about the price I paid and they said...

"I don't know how you pulled that off."

Yeah, sure.

What rear shocks are you running? I would first suspect the upper shock mounts for the rattle, sometimes you have to add a couple washers because the sleeve isn't wide enough.

Looks real good though, i like the colorway. :JEEPIN:

Running the stock shocks for now, Only because I haven't heard much complaints out of the people with the daystar. Was going to order the sky jacker shocks but if that is the culprit then im going to order them tomorrow.

If I had a choice I would have chosen a deep water blue over the salsa. I'm really pissed though I don't live in a huge town and the same weekend I bought mine someone else bought a salsa red renny from another dealer.

You need to get new rear shocks. The stock shocks aren't long enough for a lift and will bottom out with any flex. That's most likely what you're hearing when you hit bumps.

Don't get the Skyjacker rears. Get BDS, they ride much like stock. I had the Skyjackers on my 08 but changed them to BDS and was much happier with the ride quality.

I've been looking into the DayStar lift for 2 months or so now and it's cool to see someone commenting about the install and ride. I've heard good and bad things about them, and the more I hear from people who actually have it installed, the more I think that people put it down because it's not a JBA or whatever lift.

Like to hear that it rides well. Looks absolutely great. Love the renny model!

And if you're looking for paint for the grille and all that, check out dipyourcar.com - another LOST member told me about it, it's a paint that's super easy to apply and actually peels off if you don't like it. Goes on like spray paint and you don't need to sand or buff out the parts! Mine comes in a few days, blacking out my grey Jet. :pepper:

I bought the daystar for a few different reasons. First off its the price I have a new baby so I can't go drop a grand on a lift kit. Second, I would say that it's practical it's not to much lift that I need 35" tires and a regear. I honestly didn't like how soft the jeep suspension was so making it a little more firm was an improvement in my eyes. I guess I just can't see myself spending 700 dollars on a 2.5" lift when I could spend 160. Call me crazy but that's what I think

I definitely understand. I can't drop over a grand on a lift because I'm still in school and it just seems crazy to someone who doesn't go off to the trail every weekend. Unfortunately I need bigger, better tires or else I'd probably get the Daystar sooner (I'm stuck with performance tires that come with the Jet models)
