I broke one of the retaining clips for the bin cover in the cargo area of my Jeep (don't ask)...actually, it's not really broken, so much as yanked out. I was able to get it back in but now it just sits there as opposed to the non-broken side where it seems like there is a spring of some sort keeping tension on the clip and holding the bin cover down.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Any info whatsoever is appreciated.

They break easily don't they? Mine broke too, personally not worried about it.

Dammit now you got me thinking about it..
Looks like you have to remove the whole floor, side panels and bin to get under there.

Exact same thing happened to me too. It bothers me, but not enough to actually go through the work to fix it myself or pay to get it fixed. If somebody figures out an easy way I'll be happy.

Mine broke in such a way I was able to use gel super glue to fix it.2 months,so far so good.Don't use it any more than I have to.Definitely a design flaw.Jeep should do something about it.

I assume no one has found an easy fix for this lol. My solution was simple. Put my toolbox on top of the cover so it doesn't move. Problem solved :-)r

You could use a bolt to replace it with.

You'll still need to get the bin out of the floor, but once that's done you can use a bolt and some washers and nuts to create a "pin" sticking up from the bottom of the bin. Then use a wingnut on top to fasten the bin lid down.

So you would have, going up from the bottom, Bolt head, flat washer, Bin rim, flat washer, locking Retaining nut, Bin cover, Wing Nut, with the bolt driving vertically up through all of that.

Alternately, some kind of slide-bolt mechanism on the sides might work as well.

I saw somewhere, on here I think, where someone cut a piece of wood to replace the lid. He planned to carpet the top side of it and use the compartment for storage. Not sure how he held it down but it looked like there was quite a bit of storage added.

Well if you aren't putting the big plastic tray down into the compartment it's about a 3-4 inch well that's like 2 feet by 3 feet in diameter. So while you can't put anything tall in there you can fit quite a few flat/short items. (like a small shovel, emergency kit, road triangles/flares, tow rope/chain, etc.)

I changed mine to wood but I carry to much and would have to unload to get to it. So I use totes.
But I thought the broken cargo hooks were the tie down ones.
Not the ones for the tray.

Hey guys, I've fixed mine two times in an easy way, i uploaded some pictures.

Here are the main parts of the bin clip, in most of the cases the spring jumps in a place where you can find only by removing the gate-step which is very easy to remove and look under till you find it because if not you have to remove the hole rear cargo area.
Image

Now put the parts together again and try to bend the sides of clip on the spring as much as possible because its the one who keeps the spring from poping out of its place
Image

now the most important part "how to take the clip out of the cargo place?"
i did that by braking the two weak sides of the clip base and i inserted a small driver to release it out of it place and than i stick it back with super glue.

This also happened to me. I really appreciate parts that can only be removed by breaking them. The plastic cover plate is designed to be pried up and broken off with a screwdriver. Once the wings are broken out, use needle nose pliers to squeeze the flat metal tongues to release the tie down. Then reset and secure the spring. If you want to go the expensive route, get a replacement part from a dealer. You install it simply by pressing it in until it locks in place. I had to consult a dealer mechanic to learn this.

you could just rip the other one out and put velcro in the places. That's an easy, quick 5 dollar fix.
