At one point and time I had a light bar for the hood of a JK wrangler that cost about $35 screwed to the bumper. Part of the mount bracket had to be trimmed off so you can slide it between the grill and bumper but it was very easy to do. I've seen the one your talking about mounted on a bar on the grill but not positive the way he has it mounted.

I used the same bar mounted to the bumper. Beware of where you drill through - Pull the bumper off first!

I found a link to the JK Hood Mount..
http://www.acmejeepparts.com/products/1 ... tm#details

So how exactly did you guys mount this? And does it require any cutting of the plastic bumper or can you just wedge it in there?

that is the exact light bar i used. look at the pic i posted and you can see how the back of each side is cut straight up and down, the other pic shows it angle down. if you look at each side where it mounts you will need to cut 1"-1 1/4" of the side off so that it will slide underneath the grill between the bumper. you will either need to screw or bolt the bracket down to the stock bumper.

Gotcha, so you need to make a cut like this? Please excuse the crude photoshopping...

ya pretty much. all you have to do is cut straight down and straight back leaving the foot portion of it that has the mount holes. you will see it once you have one in your hands.

Put my switches in the little cubby on the dash to the drivers left knee area so I didn't cut into any visible dash area

Will these fit the bar? http://www.amazon.com/KC-HiLiTES-631-Da ... UO9HPJX26J

Or do you need to get the Slim Lights?

Those might be cutting it kinda close, I'm not sure though. I'm looking at getting a set of Hella 500s if I do go through with this mod, and I know from Dirty's picture those will fit. If I do end up mounting the Hellas I'll take some measurements to give you an idea of what kind of clearance there is behind the mounting point. My install might not be until after the new year tho...

you will need a light that is flat on the back otherwise it wont fit up against the grill. Hella 500s work and are the only light ive used or seen used and for sure would work. my Hellas were close enough that they would hit the grill on occasion and left an ever so slight rub mark.

After some research the Hella 500 series Driving lamps are 2.63" front to back. The lights i want are KC HiLiTES 121 SlimLite Black 130-Watt Long Range which are 2.75" front to back. The Hellas are 6.41" wide and the KCs are 6.5 Wide. Also the KCs are slightly forward from the screw that you use to mount them while the Hellas sit a little further back. So i think the KCs should fit without much issue if any at all.

if you do this, no matter what lights you use, i would install the lights on the bar and place it where you see fit before drilling into your bumper and finding that the lights are too close to the grill.

Ya i was gunna do that to make sure. Now how far does the bar need to get wedged into the bumper and grill? When you screw it into the bumper is it just going into the plastic? or is there metal somewhere underneath i dont remember?

I used those kc's but, I had a local welder move the mounting tabs so the lights would fit between the uprights on the grill. I also adapted a couple hollow wall anchors, installed them in the bumper cover and then screwed into the hollow wall anchors. Used the ones that screw into the wall, look like a big coarse screw. It's been on for 6 months and works great! And those kc's are bright as hell!!
