Has anyone tried rigging a catch can yet for a KK? If so, I'd love to hear about it.

I'm not 100 percent familiar with them, but they help to prevent oil getting into the manifold or something along those lines. More popular on older vehicles and diesels. If it's beneficial, I'd like to know.

Quick google search yielded this ...
http://www.accmachtech.com/catchcans.asp

These things are a good idea. Stops that oil aerosol in the PCV fumes from depositing on the intake plenum and gunking it all up.

Thank you. I just sent them an email since they don't list prices apparently.

If it's 5w20 it's to thin for your engine,5w20 in dino or synthetic is still 5w20.

Engine is running beautifully with the synthetic. Much more quiet and smooth. What do you run?

It does not matter if you run dino or syn oil,it's the 5w20 weight that is your issue.Switch to 5w30 synthetic and your issue should disappear after a few oil changes.

Your engine is designed for 5w30 oil and in hotter climates 10w30 oil. They just switched to 5w20 to squeak a extra 10th of a mpg to meet federal standards.

Well crap just switched to 5w20 for the winter. Synthetic. I noticed the engine runs smoother and first tank of gas mpg is about the same maybe a tad better.

Didn't think of any long term effects.

What about oil pressure?

Catch can shouldn't effect oil pressure. These are fumes we're dealing with for the most part.

5W oil is 5W oil. 5WS20, 5W30, etc. means you have 5W oil with 20W or 30W protection, etc.

If all you are looking for is a Crank Case Vent Catch Can? Than look no further than getting a PROVENT. Mainly used on Diesels due to more CCV pressure but can be used on any engine. I have installed them on several.

Why not?
I've seen plenty of gas motors with that black oily sludge inside intake plenums, runners and on valves. As the engine acumulates miles, the blowby/oily crankcase fumes get worse and lead to more deposits. Diesels have more hardware that gets destroyed by the deposits. Gassers get intake and valve deposits. After shutdown, the fumes condense on the back sides of throttle bodies and IAC pintles, also.

http://www.airnowsupply.com/filter-type ... lters.html

These filter/separators are made to thwart "planned obsolecence" by helping you get double or triple the life out of your engine.

Same for the Bypass oil filtration systems and low micron fuel filtering.

But if you keep up on maintenance as one should most all of those issues would not arise
I've torn down plenty of engines that people just ran them into the ground, so yes they had sludge, deposits around the valves etc.
Have also torn down plenty that were clean as a pin after 200-250,00 miles. But they were taken care of
CRD/Diesels yes
Gassers still see no real need
Take em out and run them instead of putting around trying to get the best mileage :-)r
