Post subject:  Daystar 2 inch lift
Hey everyone, my warantee just expired!!! going to lift the libby, i want to to the 2 inch daystar, is this a good enough lift just to honestly go trailblazing and light light offroading? i take it off 2 times a year if that and is this daystar bad for your truck? thoughts and answers would be helpful! thanks fellow lost liberty drivers.

Some will tell you its OK
Others who have had a Daystar and swapped for a full spring will tell you to go that way
Me, I hate to see anyone waste money on a spacer style lift
Doesn't matter if you never go off road , on road handling etc will be way better if you do it right

Now of course you'll say its cheaper and it looks like it is
But you should replace the front shocks for better ones, you'll have to replace the rears for longer ones, you'll need front bumpstops, so actually you're up to with in 150-160 bucks of a full spring lift

I still don't have as much of a bad opinion on them as Tommudd here, and others have horror stories. But I still have had not problems with them. However, I am saving up for the JBA 4" lift and I will replace the daystar when I can afford it.
The Daystar has, however, served me well for what I've used it for, it cost me about $300 for everything including the strut disassembly and reassembly. This lift has allowed me to do much so more than I would have been able to do with out the lift. The ride is the same as with out the lift, except you feel it more on the turns. It isn't and won't be as good as a high-dollar lift,such as OME or JBA. Since I am set on the JBA because I like the adjust a strut option and 4" lift I can't stomach spending the $700 or so on an OME just to replace it in a few years. If improved ride quality matters and you don't want the extra little bit of lift (compared to JBA) then spend the extra money and get the OME. If you just want looks and the benefit that the little extra ground clearance gets you, or are looking for a temporary cheap lift until you can afford the expensive JBA lift then try the Daystar. The Daystar also doesn't violate any of your warranties, though I guess that won't matter to you anymore.
Again I have loved my Daystar and I abuse (love) my Jeep. Even if it causes the springs to sag prematurely and I have to replace them they have already paid themselves off. But I still want to do more and keep up with some of the guys in my club so it has to go, the nicer ride from JBA is just a plus.

I'm sure Mudd is going to tear me up. :dead: LOL.

Hi, I can't speak specifically about the daystar lift other than to say that anytime you preload the spring, it'll make the ride rough as he!!. I can speak of spacer lifts. I had the RRO over the top 2" lift which is basically the teraflex lift. My front shocks bottomed out occasionally and I really wasn't happy with the ride. My springs were still new at the time so there wasn't any sag yet. It's probably a pretty good bet that you need springs by now. That said, old man emu makes one heck of a set of springs. I also have their shocks but the bilsteins may give you a better ride. Jeepin by Al sells everything you'll need. Even if you don't plan to go off road they would be a good choice. There are ways of getting more lift besides what the springs give. In my opinion, spacer lifts aren't a very good idea. You can add spacers to level out you're ride or add a little extra height but the stock springs, especially older ones really should be replaced. You won't regret it, I promise. If you're like the majority of us that did it twice, you will regret that. Just sayin. Someone once told me, buy once cry once. :D

I see some people have OME and Blisten? are lifts and shocks two seperate things? how much would an entire setup cost me and how long would it last?

If i wanted to acheive a 2 inch lift (enough to fit 245/75/16) what would be an ideal setup without breaking the bank. OME? (link/part #s would be appreciated)

How many times............................
check jeepinbyal all parts are listed for a full on OME kit in the 750 range
or buy springs and shocks separate
look at 750-800 for springs and shocks
plus an afternoon of reading :wink:
how long will it last? my first lift I removed at 100,000 miles on it

To answer your question, yes they are two separate things...you can have the taller springs from one manufacturer and then substitute the shocks with another type. You can have lift (body lift) without changing the springs or shocks..(of course you cannot do that for a liberty because it is unibody..but that's a different topic :))

For our platform, generally speaking, you can lift 2 ways :

1 - Spacer (technically you can add spacers without changing the shocks....but I would advise you upgrade the shocks as well).
2 - Spring ( this is when you add longer springs ...and shocks...these usually come as a package)

I went with the full spring lift from OME which gave me just over 2 inches of lift. So I just stuck with the OME shocks that came with the lift.

The only thing I will chime in is that I did the day star lift kit, kept the same shocks and all. I threw on 265/70 toyo open country a/t on it, I personally like the ride. I will upgrade the rear shocks next year bc I only have 3,500 miles on my jeep. I almost lost the jeep in hurricane sandy so I need a quick cheep lift and I love it. I'm already offered 2 photo shoots for it too. I sold my 2010 ram sport for a 2012 arctic jeep......

Ah okay, well if you saw the pics of the Duratracs, those are the most recent pics I have.
What I did is I got the lift before I changed my tires, so the only difference between the before and after pics are the change in tires. Both pics already have the lift.

If you are looking for more lift than what I have, you can :

- after installing the OME lift, add a top plate in the front and 2 extra rear Iso's (in addition to the 1 that already comes stock in the rear).

OR

- Go with a JBA 2.5 inch lift ...or even the 4 inch lift...


Anyways, here is the link to the pics I mentioned above (as mentioned before, both before and after pics already have the lift on....only change being me going from a 235/75/16 tire to the 245/75/16 DuraTrac's)

You didn't get it out of the flood zones before the storm?! :shock:

OP, most people on this forum will suggest skipping the spacer lifts and just go straight to a full suspension lifts. OME seems to be the cheapest and most common, but others went with JBA lifts which cost A LOT more money.

Listen to the experienced on the lift stuff. I too had a spacer lift ,it road hard. I switched to OME rear springs and JBA adjust a front. Save up and do it right the first time. You won't be sorry.

Someone once gave me a little advice, although it was too late as I already put a spacer lift on. Buy once, cry once. My spacer went above the coilover and the springs started to sag soon after. The daystar spacer goes under the top plate and squishes the spring giving it a tremendous amount of preload and taking away the "bounce" giving a rigid ride. :2cents:

KKs are pretty common on the island, but a lifted KK is rare. Not counting the few from LOST I think I've only seen 1 or 2 lifted KKs. Now what is really rare is a sfa KJ that's running around the island lol.

Bmxer, I live in oceanside and never in over 40 years my street has ever flooded: mind you, I live 6 houses away from a canal lol.
Having a KK on Long Island is popular but as you said it's rare to be lifted. I've only seen one and if I remember right, he had a 6" lift kit and he's the one that told me about the forums. Wheel spacers will be on keep this week. Every where I go, nobody knows what it is and everybody questions it. The dealerships go crazy over it. I'll have to get a pic up soon....

But why a photo shoot ? I mean if it was something special and had some mods . Sorry not slamming your ride but with just a cheap lift.......... :? Guess I don't get it?!!
