Let's talk about it.

The 2008s got stuck with garbage and wouldnt you kno it I own a 2008. Hasnt failed on me yet but I am not lookin to have a problem I could avoid.

Now I could replace it with a rack from a 2009 or older but is it really that much of an upgrade? I dont believe it can handle 5-5.5 inches of lift for a sustained time. Obviously I am not at 5.5 yet but I do intend to get there as soon as I get some new CVs in spring. Steering will be a limiting factor if I cannot find an upgrade as I cant replace the steering on a weekly or even monthly basis. Just gets too darn expensive.

So I'm opening this thread to make suggestions on how to correct the issue.

How did the older libertys raised with jba 6 inches deal with steering? How about all you SFA guys?

I am looking for somethin beefy so it will take the abuse. So whatta we got?

*Just brainstorming here*

I think getting the tie rods back to an angle that is closer to stock would help a lot.

Possible options:
Custom z link tie rods
Custom tie rods using heim joints instead of ball joints.
Some kind extension to raise the outer tie rod ends.

Or dump the kk steering rack and have a custom one built.
Sounds like big $$ and trial an error testing but just an idea. This is for a race car but gives the idea.

I don't really mind trial and error, been the first to try out a bunch of things on the KK and then have to fix/ redo them. I am not so much a fan of spending the big $$ though only to have things fail/not work. I am really looking ot find out some info from how JBA did the steering in the 6 inch KJ's and how some of these SFA guys made their own racks or got the factory racks to work

I don't beleive there are any changes at all for the steering at all in JBA's 6in. At least i doesn't mention anything in the parts description.
I don't know too much about what the sfa guys use, but i'm pretty sure they get rid of the rack and go to a steering box from other vehicles. The steering box would turn a pitman arm, which pulls/pushes a drag link, which is connected to the pass side knuckle which is tied to the driver's side knuckle with one long tie rod that extends the length of the axle.
