Hello!! Today I removed the rear drive shaft and took some pictures on the transfer case and rear diff.

I would like to know what this electrical connector is and the purpose of it.

Im also worried about how much water it can resist without short-circuit.





Is there anyway to waterproof it?

That would be your four wheel drive actuator, and it should be pretty waterproof as it is. The most I would do is undo the connector and put some electrical grease in it, there should be a weather pack seal there too.

The can to the left is the actual actuator itself.
It appears to be a sensor, possibly to sense that the transfer case is in 4wd.
My PFD for the 2008 KK parts catalog doesn't show that sensor.
My 2012 has a different transfer case that doesn't have that sensor.

What numbers are stamped on your t-case ID tag?

Anyways, I would not worry about it...Its going to be plenty waterproofed. If you're still concerned, the dielectric grease suggestion is an appropriate precaution.
