any body did any mod for their camping trip...
I am planning on going to camp and I am thinking about sleeping inside the jeep.
Any good idea for mod?
Thanks. :CAMPING: :JEEPIN:

Just get an air bed that fits. The pop-up rear glass is great for ventilation while the closed hatch keeps your pillow from falling to the ground.

Jayme removed the back seats and we built a platform that extends over where they were. A 3" memory foam mattress topper was cut to fit with the left over pieces creating a full second layer underneath, resulting in a 6" thick mattress. Being 6'2" I have to lay diagonally, but Jayme fits normally. This was fairly comfortable for our Route 66 trip back in December.

I've seen people spend a whole weekend "camping" out of the KK. I had my boat at this beach called Gilgo. One side is an ocean beach with a tunnel leading under the highway to the bay side which has a marina, huge parking lot, and bar in the cove. These people brought their small boat down and drove the Liberty there too. Kept the rear hatch open all weekend long, had a mattress in the back and slept in the Jeep. Didn't seem to bad especially when they put up one of those gazebo things behind it and made a clothes line and all lol

If your truly camping then sleep in a tent or under the stars, that's true campin
Plus I'm 6'6" so sleeping in the back of mine is kinda out of the question.

I made a flat floor in mine in the back but retained the rear seats just had to do some angle compensation. I slept back there all through Pastfari a few years ago and i am 6 foot. i just piled all my stuff up on my Boulder bars rack and went to bed.

Your camping question made me remember this thread: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=71703
JeepNCrowd camped in his KK but got extra foot room by folding the front passengers seat flat.

Any idea of what kind of air bed would fit?

You have a KK so you shouldn't need to remove the rear seats as they fold flat... Unless you are doing it for some type of storage solution.

I haven't been in awhile, but Cabela's used to carry fitted truck bed and SUV air mattresses. They had cut outs for the wheel wells. Don't know if they still do but its a thought. :?:

I just go with the coleman mattresses. Measure the width to see which one you want to get. Dont worry about fitting around the wheel wells as the gaps are convienent for holding a water bottle, flashlight, etc.
Its OK if the console pushes against the mattress a little. I ran the seats forward and tilted the backs forward for plenty of foot room.
