Post subject:  Those with adjust a struts and 4" lifts
So I'm having a problem with a clunking noise when I go over bumps. I believe it's coming from the cv.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what you did to fix it. And what's the difference between the top nut and top of the threads on your struts. Wondering if I just have them torqued down too hard

you cant really zap them down to far, theres only so many threads and from my understanding youll know when you have no more left. atleast I did.

I have a ever so slight clunk on small bumps that I am chalking up to a stiffer suspension

I wish this was a slight clunk but I feel it in the floor boards. I'm just curious as to what the measurement people with 4" have on their threads. I'm sitting at 1.75" inches of thread right now but I'm at the same height as my OME lift.

Did you torque everything with the full weight of the vehicle on the ground? If not that could be a cause of it.

Are my pockets enlarged? No they're pretty empty after buying these struts :ROTFL:

It's not the pockets. I can see where the control arms hit the bottoms of the pockets but they only did it a few times. Plus if that was the case it would eventually stop since it would be bent out of the way.

What me and my buddy believe it is, is that the shocks are topping out. I have the threads set at about 3" so I get roughly a .25" of travel down until they are at the top. So for the time being they are lowered until I find a solution or talk to JBA and ask what the heck

at 21 inches my jba gen 5.5arms hit alot and once the shop enlarged the pockets my thud/clunk went away

I was just about to ask about this. Topping out a shock makes a horrible loud thud that can be felt throughout the rig

Had a friend with a Camaro that bottomed out his shocks(needed new shocks badly) on bumps and you would have thought the rod was going to come up through the wheel wells

And that's exactly what it feels like when I go over a bump. Like my suspension is just two pieces of metal bouncing.

If your struts/shocks are too short to accommodate your lift then you will reach the end of the travel in the strut before you fully have articulated the spring. So you will experience a huge thud when you fully extend your shock

Now that I'm a little more awake I realized I'm not topping out the strut. I'm actually bottoming it out. Since the the shocks are adjusted so high the truck only travels up about a quarter inch until I'm on the bottom of the strut. Either way...a solution is in the works

Arctic, did you eventually settle on a good lift height for your adjust a struts? I hope it all worked out for you.

I measured my lift again today and it is about an eighth less than 21 inches from the center of the wheel to the flare. That means things have settled over a half inch since the install about 7000 miles ago. I'm thinking of cranking mine back up to 21-1/2 inches, but the shop did that last time, and this will be my first time adjusting the adjust-a-struts myself. Do you have any pointers or advice? What is a good SOP for this? Thanks, Lauren

real easy to do
Get the Jeep up in the air with the weight off of the front suspension.
You do have the adjusting tools that came with the lift , right?
If so hold the bottom nut, and loosen the top one. Run the bottom one down however much you want to go, tighten the top one down on the bottom and there ya go

Thanks, Tom. Yup, I have the wrenches. Do you have to use grease or WD40 on the threads first?
