Have you made any more headway on this issue? I'm having pretty much the same problem as you are with the same front setup. My wheel bearings were replaced last year on both side in the front so I am sure that is not the issue. It doesn't show the same symptoms as a bad wheel bearing to me. I looked on RockAuto's website, and they have the front CV, passenger and driver sides for pretty cheap. Would these suffice as good replacements? I'm curious to see what the issue is for you. My noise seems to kick in at around 35ish mph but it is only sometimes as well.

Hi Texas,
I wish I could say I made progress, but finances are tight and I've been working 60-80 hours a week the last few weeks to meet deadlines at work. I have thought a lot about fixing it and taken it apart and put it back together in my mind! And I am pretty sure it's the CV that's bad, not the hub, from what people have posted. I will have this thing figured out before Thanksgiving for sure, as we need to travel then. For now I'm keeping the Jeep off the highway except for short jaunts, because of the vibration. Not that I think the wheel is going to fall off or anything, but because I don't want other parts connected to it to wear out and break too. I don't know about Rock Auto when it comes to parts like these. Napa has always been the favorite for remanufactured CV's for the KJ folks, but Napa doesn't carry KK CV's yet. I will likely get a low mileage used one from a junkyard nearby because it's the most cost effective solution for now.
Cheers,
LFH

JY find! :pepper: A rear-ended '10 KK with only 20,298 on the odometer! Got the right side CV and intermediate shaft for $50 and a one year warranty for only $7 more. A little surface rust doesn't bother me, as my '08 has it too. The boots look good.

Looks good and plus got the Intermediate Shaft with it so there's 135-150 bucks worth of parts there
Before you install pull them apart and clean/ grease the splines really well

Great find, kinda makes me want to go junkyard hunting. I know the lifts wear some stuff out quick on us. Maybe I can find some extra stuff I could use...

Did you go to a regular junkyard or a pick and pull?

Thanks guys,
I don't have a regular junkyard, but I'm starting to really like shopping this way. I got a matching 5th rim for $70 from a JY in Michigan when I was over there visiting family this summer, and this CV comes from a JY in central PA. I used http://www.car-part.com to find junkyards that have the parts I'm looking for, then I call or email them. In this case, they sent me the photo and had all of the stats about the KK it came from. It's a bit of a risk buying something I haven't held in my hands yet, but for $50 and coming from a 20,000 mile Jeep, I figured it wasn't a bad bet.

a quick look on Morris 4x4 site showed me that the parts cost around 280 $ ....
am i looking at the wrong part or is the diagram really different to the KK ?....

Hi Topan,
The KJ and KK have basically the same front axle setup, but the cv's and intermediate shaft are not interchangeable between models. You should have less trouble finding axles for your KJ than I did for my KK. Napa auto parts sells remanufactured axles for the KJ that are very reasonable in price, but I don't know if you can get them in Switzerland. You could also try rockauto.com.

You're welcome. Let me know how it works out, or if I can be of any help. It was a while ago now (Jeep is at 146K miles now) but I remember doing a lot of research to troubleshoot this. My left CV is still the original and the used one (with intermediate shaft) I put in the right side has 70K more miles on it than when I got it from the junkyard.

It solved the problem for you, right Lauren? I'm 90% sure my passenger and possibly drivers side CVs are going. Started last year with an occasional click/pop sound when turning. Now it's doing it going straight and with downward travel.

It did totally solve the problem. At the time back in 2013 there were no NAPA remanufactured CVs to be had for the KK, so i got mine from a low mileage junkyard KK that was rear-ended. Maybe by now it will be easier to source remanufactured NAPA CVs and intermediate shafts as more KK's are aging. (On the KJ at least, CV's from other auto parts stores were too short but NAPA remanufactured worked well.)

Awesome, guess I'll see what I can find. I'm assuming I'm better off replacing the intermediate shaft on the passenger side at the same time. The clicking is driving me nuts and I don't want to wheel her like this. My luck I'll blow the axle right in the deep stuff and be screwed.

Did you have any wobble feeling at low speeds? Like a feeling the one wheel is slightly oblong.

well the wobble has been resolved for me. One of my hub mounting bolts came off and the other two were starting to loosen. replaced and retorqued the others and no more wobble. Still bouncing though.

No alignment needed if replacing the CV/ Intermediate shaft
NOW if you do find the intermediate shaft bad, replace it and the CV . Lube them good as well

Looked at the write up, pretty much what he wrote, don't like the " hit the end of the axle with a big hammer " statement but yes tie rod end, sway bar, upper ball joint etc
I pull everything including the spindle just to make it easier and not screw up the seals/bearings etc. With the adjustable coilovers you can unscrew the clevis and get it out of the way as well

It's times like this I'm glad I got mine new and it's still covered by the lifetime warranty. So far to date, I've had 1 tensioner idler, water pump (same visit), tranny pan/gasket and front drive shaft (rubber boot was splitting so they replaced the whole thing). Only had to pay for a new serpentine belt (100k, it was due anyway). Dodge (no pun there) some costly repairs.
