Post subject:  Odometer Error

Hi, I have a KK 2008. Last week I changed the battery and now the odometer says "Error". I tried several methods like putting back the old battery, unplug the battery for 12h, reset the cluster and none of these worked, the error still there! The "check engine light" is off, so no problem with that. I also checked with a generic scanner and "no error codes" were found.

My question is: ¿Can I fix the error with this programmer? I need to know if I can before purchasing it.

Thanks for your help.

I think you may be up a creek. Everything I have seen on the ERROR message in the cluster either involves a dealer flash, or a cluster replacement. Either way a dealer would need to do programming.

The "error" message means there is an internal error in the cluster that is preventing the mileage from being displayed. The PCM should still know the correct mileage. I believe all you need is a NEW (used will not work, it must be NEW) cluster. When you plug it in and reconnect the battery, it should self-program based on what the other modules tell it.

The dealer has to send the new cluster to have the correct mileage displayed. They will not sell it without programming a mileage in,verified mileage.

Yep. This is what they had to do to mine. New cluster arrived with the "Verified" mileage on it.
Which was not my actual mileage, since I had driven it about 100 miles after the mileage was verified, before the cluster was actually installed.
In my case, I had to get a new cluster because the new A/C controls were not recognized by the old one. Go figure... Computers! :juggle:

I have a 2008 Liberty. Just got this Error message when my dealer disconnected the battery to replace the radiator. I took delivery of the vehicle, because I couldn't wait for a fix. I also didn't want to jump at his first suggestion of replacing the cluster.
My Internet research has turned up about ten owners of 2008 Libertys who've had this same error message occur as a result of disconnecting the battery to perform service. Three of these owners reported they had their dealer flash the PCM, which reset the odometer reading.
I couldn't determine an outcome for the others. Those who had scans done reported no trouble codes present, as did my own dealer. I'll report on my case when it's resolved. I'm now suspecting the 2008 clusters are prone to this defect.

My dealer was able to flash my PCM and restore the cluster odometer successfully.

Thanks for getting back to us with your fix.
Good to hear you are back on the road.

My dealership sucks, they even know what is a pcm flash. Flashing with the Hypertech programmer it's work?

Still battling this problem?
Does it run?

Hypertech programmer will not flash the computers the way you need it done.
A Dealer needs a StarMobile or Wytech scanner to do it right.
They have to download the programming from Dodge, then flash it to your computers.
Even then it may not work. In which case a new cluster is needed.

TIA-

Reviving an old thread. I have an 08 Liberty in which I had to replace the water pump, requiring removing the battery for easier access. The job went well except now I have ERROR displaying instead of miles. I did the cluster self test which displayed all cluster lights and the speedometer and tach moving incrementally up and down. My question is this: is there any way for the layman to tell if the ECM needs to be flashed, or the cluster repaired/replaced? The local dealers are booked at least a month out, and are asking $175 for diagnostics. I'm kicking around sending the cluster out for repair, but I'm not sure if after I do that if I still have to go to the dealer to get it operational, or am I better off biting the bullet and hoping all that needs to be done is the flash? No CEL, no codes, it runs fine, and NYS inspection is due the end of 2023.

Thanks!
