So, drove home today and between 30-40 mph and low rpms my transmission lagged (or the jeep lurched) and I heard a chirp. Drove fine after and did it again in the same mph range and low rpm. It doesn't lag/chirp at the same speeds and higher rpms. I just had my tranny fluid changed a week ago at Midas and did the transfer case myself 4-5 weeks ago along with an oil change. Any ideas?? I'm about to drive it again through some city streets and see if it happens again. Really weird chirping sound!

My idea is somebody did something wrong! Why did you have it changed, scheduled maintenance, or ? Did Midas have the correct tools need for Trans oil change? Did they use correct Trans fluid?. |

She's at the dealership, find out tomorrow. I bought the Jeep from a chevy dealership and bought the extended warranty with 52000 miles. They tried to tell me it should still be under the power train from Jeep, WE can't do much. Uh-uh. We'll see... |

Dealer could find no noticeable problem, so I guess it was just a weird quirk. They even drove it over to the Jeep dealership. Fluids were fine, everything. Guess I was just stressed out over other stuff, who knows. |

Back to Midas, did they use the correct ATF? Unless they have changed something all they do is add some type of additive and say its the same. Did the dealership actually test the ATF to see if it was the correct type ? |

Midas put Valvoline Max Life ATF in and it seems to be an appropriate substitute, but this type of issue seems to be common with old transmissions. But I only have 57000 miles. I am going back on Friday however to try and get ATF+4 in there, closed for thanksgiving early. |

It definitely shifts far from perfect when it's cold. Mine doesn't shift normally till it's just about warmed up. |

Owned her almost 6 months now. The shift is just MUCH more pronounced now when cold. Was freaked out a bit by it, but all seems well. |

Sounds like you just gotta get used to the aged transmission that is far from perfect. Like I said, don't expect good gas mileage or for it to shift right until it's completely warmed up. |

I feel pretty confident that the cold shifting is all that you're experiencing, but still be careful. |
