Hey guys, I want to add some red LED bulbs in with my white lights above the center console for night driving (and control them with a switch).

Anyone remove the lights up there or can point me in the right direction? I'm going to head down to my jeep now and see what I can dig up but it would be nice to get some references

Iirc you just pop the clear lens out with a flat head screwdriver. There should be a little slot on there somewhere. Putting leds was the very first mod I did to my kk, I'll never go back to reg incandescents.

Awesome!! Thanks!

I'm probably going to switch a white LED into the stock position and add a red LED bulb in each and put a switch in my switch box. Thanks for the advice though

Do you mean something like this:

I rewired the courtesy lap feed to go to an added LED in the center, the red ones come on and off with the switch.

That's really cool. My plan is to install another set of lights within the incandescent area, so I will keep the regular incandescent lights (for now) and run red LED lights with a switch. They'll come from the same spot, but the incandescents will turn on when the door is open, light lens is pushed up, etc.

Has anybody taken down the entire overhead console? Considering trying to pry it off and install the lights in the flat area near the useless paperclip thing

Yep just pull down hard from the sides!!! there are 3 clips holding the console up I will post pictures later today I have mine out now at home.

As far as removing the lens.. there are 2 clips at the hinge that pop out with a little pressure from small flat head screw driver.. I removed the lens from the back (where you push the light on) then I saw how the lens was held into place.

Great, thanks! I was playing with the overhead console after posting and got it down and back up easily. Luckily (sorta) Amazon decided to not ship some electrical parts with 2 day shipping so I have some time to continue planning/prepping
