Possibly the last topic of the day! Is there anyway I can get the jumping power of 4x4 low all the time. I know Im in a take so to speak and not a race car but more power at the line would make me fall in love with the kk all over again. Has anyone done the cutout mod on the grill to allow more air into the intake? Does it make any difference at all? Or is this one of the thing the computer will learn its way around? |

Take the front driveshaft out and leave it in 4Low. |

Am i correct in thinking that regearing cant really be done by a novice at home? How much gains will I see in a kk.. I read something from someone sayiong after re-gearing the kj I will actually spin the tires.... Could I expect to see something along these lines? any idea how much it costs? |

No regearing is not something that just anyone can do, special tools/ experience/knowledge come into play Cost check with Ted15 he regeared recently and could tell you better but it depends on the labor costs in your area plus parts of course With 4.10s in mine with 265-75-16 I can turn them over fairly easy if I want to if thats your thing |

Or a loss of MPG at higher speeds? Like I said, I don't know really know anything on the subject, but I would like to learn! |

How should that affect it. 4.56 is probably what you want with 32" tires. I have 245/75-16 and almost went with 4.56 instead of 4.10's. Diggerfreak put 4.10's on his with a standard shift which is about the same as 4.56 on an automatic. He loves it. |

If you do a lot of freeway driving, you will lose gas mileage and top speed. The benefit will come in stop and go traffic and low speed cruising where your RPMs stay under 2000. Changing tire sizes and gear ratios go hand in hand and have benefits and penalties. Like having a hot wife, it's gonna cost you more money, and it won't last as long. |

The only way not to lose "top speed" is by going with a larger tire when you regear. Even then you need to choose the right gearing for the larger tires. Either way, we're electronically limited at 110-115mph(I think the exact is 112.x) so you'd have to choose a pretty high gear to not hit that lol. On the other hand, if you want to regear for power and don't up the tire size, you're looking at a worse highway mileage due to sitting at a higher rpm when cruising. |
