Sorry if someone has already posted this, and I was too lazy to find it myself. Anyone do a DIY? ...or are you all using the K&N $300 one? |

At least you admit being too lazy to search.  I tried doing this a long time ago, but removed it shortly thereafter. No extra power, no increased throttle response, no more mpg's, just a waste of time and money.

Soooo....would you get the extra power, throttle response, mgp, etc. from the K&N? And if so, why? |

I use the $300 one. I won't say too many good things so I don't get bashed, but I love the sound. Just research them a lot before you install them so you know the risks.

Don't do it. You already have a cold air intake that filters properly. lfhoward has the right idea if you insist on doing something. They are great on turbodiesels so you can hear the turbo whistle. |

I want to believe it would do something beneficial, but we don't have any measurable data that I know of that proves it does. |

The grille mod makes no discernible difference (at least in my experience). I closed the hole with black duct tape from behind, and now I don't have to worry about getting in a flash flood up to the door handles and hydrolocking the engine.  In all seriousness, I don't think our stock KK intakes are in any way restricted, so opening the hole didn't really improve anything. My scan gauge did show a slight reduction in intake air temp when idling or driving in slow traffic, but with our advanced computer controlled fuel injection and throttle, I think the engine compensates. There was very little to no IAT difference at speed. I got no mpg or power increases from doing this. |

I've got a K&N drop in filter, not so much for performance though. I like the fact that I can clean and oil it when it needs it. As long as its oiled properly it seems to work well. I can see potential problems if it isn't maintained properly or if too much oil is applied. I regularly check the inside of the tube going to the throttle body and it stays clean. I use the spray oil, it's way too easy to over oil it with the liquid.

I use The Purolator brand from Advance Auto and have been happy with it. I use their oil filters as well. |
