So, it happened.. The moment I was hoping I'd never have to deal with.

I opened my skyslider (while stopped) today for the first time in a couple months (it was 50 degrees today in Boston; somewhat of a heat wave after an average of 11 degrees for the last month and a half.)

The problem occurred when i went to close it. It closed to about 95% of the way. The very back was not all the way down. So I pressed close again and it didnt move. I then hit Auto and it closed all the way. Happy that it closed, but nervous that I just had that issue, I tried to open it again. All I heard was clicky-clacky binding sound coming from the rear of the skyslider. I let go, and tried hitting the other buttons. The rearward Auto button doesn't do anything. The close and forward facing Auto buttons cause the binding sound.

Anyone ever dealt with this before? I am somewhat mechanically inclined, but I don't know that I can fix this. Is this a beginning of a nightmare? I bought the Jeep at a dealer about 100 miles away so I am hoping I can have a local dealer fix this under warranty.

Quick facts:
-I just bought the KK in late Sept 2013
-The skyslider track was replaced once before according to service records at the dealer I purchased it from
-I have NEVER opened or closed the skyslider at speed. Only while in park to avoid problems (irony)
-The Jeep was sold to me as certified pre-owned with an existing factory warranty.
-20,000 miles on the odometer.

Thank you very much

You should be good until 36000 miles when your warranty ends. Any Chrysler/Jeep garage should fix it under warranty, for $0. When I had my gas tank replaced for the gas burp issue, I got it done at a Jeep dealer 600 miles away from home while I was on vacation.
I don't have a sky slider but I have read enough posts to know it's not something that can be fixed at home. (bummer, but at least you're under warranty)

You're good under warranty.
I also know there's a TSB for loss of auto mode.

Well the local dealer told me that in their opinion, the repair made to the skyslider before I purchased it was not done properly, which is what caused the failure. He said the track was mangled? Because of this, they are telling me that I must bring the Jeep back to the selling dealer, which is just under 100 miles away. I talked to Chrysler Cares and they weren't much help. The girl was very nice but in the end she was just good at listening to me make my case. She offered a "theres nothing we can do at this point" and reiterated that the selling dealer must make the repair.

This sucks. I love my KK but the skyslider is the only reason I bought one. I'm so afraid that the original dealer who apparently fixed it improperly the first time will do so again when I bring it down to them.

The skyslider isn't fragile when taken care of correct? I have never opened or closed it at any speed. Do any of you have a skyslider and use it frequently without issues?

I hope you get this fixed. I use my skyslider all the time when it's warm. Last time it was opened was over a month ago due to the weather. Wish I had some advice.
