Post subject:  New Front Wheel Bearings
Got my Jeep inspected today, and found out it needs a new wheel bearing in the right front side. The estimate I was given for install was $450 from the dealer.

Has anybody else run into this? What's the going rate for getting these put in? The price worked out to about half and half between parts and labor.

See if it's covered under warranty.
Had both front wheel bearings replaced for $750 I believe. She said it would have been covered under warranty, but they couldn't honor it because I had spacers on.

In case this helps anyone else out, they weren't covered under warranty. I ended up getting an independent shop to do both front wheels for $700. It seemed to make a huge difference in handling and everything is a lot quieter now.

It was right around 75K miles. Stock suspension for now, and had 235/70-16 General AT2s on it for the last 45k if that makes a difference.

Mine started to show signs at 40K. I assume it was from something the previous owner did. since I got it with about 33K.

I would say both of mine went out about 50K or so. I got mine at around 32K, so it may have been the previous owner, though I suspect my wheeling habits heavily contributed. I paid about 500 Euros, which is roughly 700 bucks.

partsgeek sells Timken replacement hub assemblies for ~$95 w/ free shipping, couple hours of time to replace, seems like a better deal than spending $450-700 to have them replaced at a dealer/mechanic. Is there something I'm not aware of in replacing these? I don't want to get balls deep only to realize I need to take it to a dealer because of some special tool I don't have. Looks like I'll need a 35mm socket but other than that it seems pretty straightforward.

don't really need any special tools... I recommend using at least 3/4" drive tools, those castle nuts can be pretty tight. Also, call the dealer to find out the correct torque specs. If you don't have them right, they will fail prematurely. Your also going to want to buy some new cotter pins... I always destroy those things when I take them out.

I've done 3 or 4 hub assemblies on several different vehicles. Not really hard to replace. It only takes a few hours, and a little patience.
