Tires will be installed within the next few days. I acquired an OEM rim and need to know if I need to get a TPMS sensor for it. Thanks in advance.

I still do not understand how system works, ScarO has tried to explain it. Do you have a KK with just the Icon that lights? I'm thinking that it wouldn't really read 5 tires. If mine can reset with the tires in the pole barn or by parking by another Chrysler product, then what would a 5th be doing ?

Okay, I'll ask for one when I get the tires. I'm guessing this is a part they probably have in stock?

Don't count on them having one. Find out which ones are compatible with your tpms system and shop around. EBAY Motors is a good place to get the part no. I bought mine from summit racing. I don't remember how much it was but I think it was about half of OEM.

It is actually a simple system and very robust. It is basically a VERY CLOSE proximity system. There are 4 transmitters (the sensors in the wheel) and 4 receivers. The receivers are in the wheel well. They will only pick up the transmitters when they are actually in the wheel well. This is why it won't pick up the stored spare, or an adjacent car for that matter.

I run without the TPMS in the wheels and annoyingly every now and again when I'm driving next to another newer JK Wrangler or Liberty on the highway my EVIC system will pick up and display one of their tyres.

It's annoying because then the dash starts showing the errors and chiming as it's gone from none to just 1 tyre. Takes about a week before my computer settles down and goes back to not displaying any lights and just giving me a single chime when I start the car.

Gage, I try to go 3-4K on rotations for my Duratracs. I rotate them every time I change the oil. Tommudd has done so and his have lasted over 60K miles, so there is my inspiration.

I don't have EVIC, but I can imagine it happening. Scar-O did explain how TPMS works in a thread. I'd like to see a system that couldn't get false info.
So back to my original thought that without the EVIC system just the dash icon/ chime like mine. What would adding 5 th really do, to 4 system? I'd say it's not needed because 4 are already being read. If it came with a full size spare then a 5 the would be being read. And then needed with a new spare.
