Tires will be installed within the next few days. I acquired an OEM rim and need to know if I need to get a TPMS sensor for it. Thanks in advance.

You don't need it but if you place it in the rotation with the rest of them then you'll want it because the tpms light will.come on and it'll drive you nuts.

The computer is smart enough that it will recognize your new TPMS sensor without needing a flash. I got an OEM rim with a sensor from a junkyard, and once the sensor was reset (I think the tire shop did it with a magnet), the Jeep recognized it when the tire was installed. I now run a 5 tire rotation without any TPMS issues.

There wasn't anything to do when I put mine on. It was recognized when the system refreshed automatically.

Okay, I'll ask for one when I get the tires. I'm guessing this is a part they probably have in stock?
Definitely planning on a 5 tire rotation! :grim:

I still do not understand how system works, ScarO has tried to explain it. Do you have a KK with just the Icon that lights? I'm thinking that it wouldn't really read 5 tires. If mine can reset with the tires in the pole barn or by parking by another Chrysler product, then what would a 5th be doing ?

You only need the fifth one if you plan to use it in your tire rotation.

Don't count on them having one. Find out which ones are compatible with your tpms system and shop around. EBAY Motors is a good place to get the part no. I bought mine from summit racing. I don't remember how much it was but I think it was about half of OEM.

I'd think it would read the 4 were ever they were, with my system. Somebody needs to do and post up the results.

It is actually a simple system and very robust. It is basically a VERY CLOSE proximity system. There are 4 transmitters (the sensors in the wheel) and 4 receivers. The receivers are in the wheel well. They will only pick up the transmitters when they are actually in the wheel well. This is why it won't pick up the stored spare, or an adjacent car for that matter.

If you want to see how sensitive it is. With you vehicle running...take off one wheel.. As soon as you pull it from the wheel well the TPM system will show an alert.

Also, since the system is so simplistic, it doesn't need any kind of pairing process.. As soon as a receiver picks up a compatible sensor, it will register.

Okay. I'll ask when they confirm the tires have arrived. Thanks for the tip about Summit. Good place. If I can't get one right away, it'll be okay, but I definitely want it.
So what do you guys think, 4-5K miles on rotations? I completely failed to follow a good mile marker pattern for the stock tires.

WRONG.! That's what my point is Mine are 10-15 foot away from my KK in my pole barn and they reset every night . And other vehicle's have reset mine. This just happened again Tuesday and I think I parked by a mini van.But I have the basic with just the icon in dash.
I've posted about this last year, when I put winter only tires on with out TPMS. I make it a game to see what I park by to reset. It's happened 2 times this winter, once last.

I run without the TPMS in the wheels and annoyingly every now and again when I'm driving next to another newer JK Wrangler or Liberty on the highway my EVIC system will pick up and display one of their tyres.

It's annoying because then the dash starts showing the errors and chiming as it's gone from none to just 1 tyre. Takes about a week before my computer settles down and goes back to not displaying any lights and just giving me a single chime when I start the car.

Gage, I try to go 3-4K on rotations for my Duratracs. I rotate them every time I change the oil. Tommudd has done so and his have lasted over 60K miles, so there is my inspiration.
Here is the pattern I use for the 5 tire rotation (and that my shop uses in the event I have them do it):

I don't have EVIC, but I can imagine it happening. Scar-O did explain how TPMS works in a thread. I'd like to see a system that couldn't get false info.
So back to my original thought that without the EVIC system just the dash icon/ chime like mine. What would adding 5 th really do, to 4 system? I'd say it's not needed because 4 are already being read. If it came with a full size spare then a 5 the would be being read. And then needed with a new spare.

Thanks. I'll save this picture.
Still no call from the shop. I'm assuming the snow slowed down their deliveries, I know it messed up all the deliveries at my work. :banghead:

The non-EVIC module has memory for 5 sensors regardless of how it came from the factory, so it can track all 5. Any low pressure from any of the tires (Spare included) will turn the lamp on. You can run four, but then you run the risk of the one without the sensor going flat and not noticing it until it is too late.

I'm old we learned how to check our tires not rely on/blame someone/thing.
If more people had done this, we wouldn't have this stuff stuck on our vehicles. Plus the added expense of replacing them.

Hmmm so do you guys think I have a sensor on my donut spare? If so, could I put it on my full size spare?
(Sport model, no EVIC)

No not in donut spare.
