Hi all,
I just found your website and I can't stop reading. It has made me want to do some modifications to my 2010 Jeep Liberty sport. What would be a good way to start getting into modifying my Jeep? What would be a good way for a beginner to start getting into modifying my jeep with the eventual outcome of having an awesome Jeep.

Also, I noticed there are a lot of people here from the New Jersey area. Are there are clubs or groups near Rockaway that I should be looking into for advice and help?

Hi, can you give more info? What do you intended to use your KK for? What it has now?

Thanks for the response,
My KK is my daily driver but I would also like to start getting into off-roading with it.

Currently there are no modifications to it. It does have a sky slider though which is apparently important knowledge because looking at some of the posts I have seen one of the first thing I will need is a wind deflector to help with the whistle noise when it is closed and then if I want to get a rack system for the roof I need to get rails and specific rails to make sure the clearance is tall enough.

Lift and tires is always a good start.

No lift necessarily needed and tires may not be needed. Why spend money if those aren't needed? Spend the money on what would serve the most purpose.
A member just had a custom rack made for ski slider, you might needed to do the same.

^ Good advice.

I'd add, read, read, and read some more. I've avoided a multitude of mistakes by reading a lot of threads and seeing what worked (or didn't work) for others. :)

Awesome!! Thank you guys so much! I have been reading a lot since I found the thread.

Do you know where the guy had the custom racks made?

I was thinking to start I would just black out the emblems and maybe the light covers.

Anyone seen any sources for good light covers or tints that the light will still shine through well?

I have limited cell service, and search never works for me. But search and keep reading. Somebody might be more helpful than I can be too.

Yes it's plasti dip which you can find at Lowe's and home depot. It peels off so it's not permanent. Most people use it on their wheels.

Well I would like to eventually when I have the money to invest in the big ticket items like lifts and tires and all, but for now I am justifying the light covers as a way of preventing damage to the headlights in the event of a tree limb or rock kicks up and hits them on the trail. :2cents:

Welcome to the club! The best thing to do (in my opinion) is to get off road a few times and see how your KK does versus your desires and expectations. I only ask my KK to do lighter trails and more backcountry-type travel than anything, so I fitted my KK accordingly (mild lift, AT tires in my optimum size).

As for the Jet, I have one as well! Some things to remember are a) you have 20 inch rims aka limited tire size selection, and b) you don’t have skid plates, which are beyond important if you’ll be hitting trails often.

As everyone has said, read, read, and read some more. It’s best to surf the threads, then ask if you have questions that aren’t answered, and then apply the knowledge. There are a ton of awesome write-ups, and a good variety of modification levels in the forums. Go enjoy your KK before you dump cash into it, get off road and see how it does!

PS - I am in the Flemington area, not too many clubs that I am aware of but LOST guys are always looking to meet up. Check out our regional page down lower in the sections
