Id like to get some ideas what I can do to improve the off road traction and abilities of my 2012 Liberty Limited Latitude 2WD. I just ordered 255/55-18 Nitto Terra Grapelers to go all around. Should I change the rear end? Should I lift her up a little? Im too upside down on my loan for her to just trade for a 4x4 so this is the vehicle I have to work with. |

Rear locker would improve it a lot. |

What Atthehelm said. Even with a rear locker though it will still be limited especially in the rocks. Are you planning on paying it off and keeping it long term? If so you can ad an aftermarket transfer case or one from a Jk (a Rubicon would be nice) and add 4x4. It would be alot of work though but it would be pretty custom. You may be able to find a scrapped KK at a pick and pull and take the parts off of it. Otherwise tires and rear locker will be your best bet. Smaller wheels with a taller tire with more side wall so you can air down your rear tiers more. I would think you would maintain front tires air pressure (Possibly even hyper inflate them [not to dangerous levels though]) to allow for less rolling resistance over obstacles (any thoughts on the LOST memebers?). You really wouldn't need a lift unless you want it just for the look or to improve ride quality. |

Also if you really plan on wheeling it in 2wd I would highly recommend a winch and snatch strap. |

I dont do rock crawling or mudding any more. My intentions are to make sure I dont get stuck every time I leave the hard ball. Ive been stuck in the grass (wet), stuck immediately when I got off road in less than 1" of mud, 2" of snow, of course on ice, everywhere except on pavement. Im mounting Nitto Grappelers 255/55-18's next week so that will help a little. Thought hard about installing 4x4 under it and probably will since ill be keeping it forever. Think the install of oem front drive parts would go good, maybe the wiring and electronics may be a witch but a 2wd and a 4wd cant be too different under there. Im hopping the drive housing will bold right up to the frame and a lot of my 2wd suspension and steering parts will be interchangeable. |

In that case a rear locker seems perfect for you. I would imagine the the OEM parts would be bolt on, but I'm not totally sure. Either way have fun with the mod if you do it. You'd be the first 2wd to 4wd conversion on a KK that I know of.

Could always buy a Wrecked KK 4x4 as long as the parts are okay. Then you could have all the parts you need, plus part out what you dont. |

The hardest part would be the electronics. Everything is programed into the computers and I'd bet dollars to doughnuts a dealer won't change the programming on your rig. Which only leaves the hopes that someone will break Jeeps codding and hack the system for you... |

His son has a Liberty KK and I ask him to bug his BIL. |
