mine are extending about 10" to fit the winch bracket from the bumper. i have the same idea plus added an L shape to the 2x2. as a stop so they don't go in more than what i want plus it serves as a bolting point as well.
i had the feeling the unibody is tapered so it the bumper is mounted you cant slide it in but you can slide it out. mybe try to oen the plate holes a little and with loose bolts push it in and then tight the bolts it may work

it is going great

my bumper should arrive monday

If it sticks out 10 inches past the cross member, what are your plans to fill in the gap between the bumper & flares?

don't know yet. dot forget hat my jk bumper not a full size, it is 59" long.
have some ideas. i can make a bracket for the turn signals, do some chopping and expose the tire, maybe try... some crazy idea
once i get the bumper aligned and the plates welded in position i will start worrying about tat gap.

Cool bumper, I just finished putting some adjustability in my adapters for fine tuning the bumper placement but still deciding which bumper to use so I can drill my mounting holes to the frame rails.

but this is a more or less how it looks now.

the finished product may be a 1/2 higher and will stick it out 1/2 more. just waiting on the winch to adjust fitment.

Hail damage to the house from a storm last year. It's a long drawn out fight that I won't bore everyone with details. Needless to say it's very time consuming.

Wife just had a baby so it's a bit busy but I think I'm going to pull the trigger on a bumper this week.

Update: bumper purchased, I'll update it once it's mounted & assuming it makes it here in one piece.

New bumper is here & for $280 it looks pretty good. Best news is that I got lucky with the length as it looks like it will slide right between each fender flares. Installation will probably happen Tuesday or Wednesday
