I posted in the electronics section but didn't get much traffic so I thought I'd give it a shot here.
I've been looking at different LED lights for a couple years now but up until recently I haven't seen replacement headlight bulbs. I've seen the driving lights but no headlights.

Anyone running these or know someone who is? They have Cree LED's so they should be ok.

Skip the LED headlights that just replace the bulbs. The full headlight replacement LED versions(JW Speaker and such) are the real deal but those replacement LED headlight bulbs are a joke and maybe 1/4 as bright as a standard halogen bulb(mostly due to the halogen housing).

If I understand correctly the way the LED bulbs are made, they direct light out 360* and out the front like the halogen bulbs.
Unlike the HID bulbs which use plasma that burns in the shape of an arch which moves the center of the bulb off from the center of the halogen reflector causing the light to disburse rather than focus. Add to that the missing projector lense. I totally get why HID replacement bulbs are a waste of money.
The way I see it, as long as the light leaves the bulb in the same manor as any other bulb, light is light and the brighter and whiter the better. It would be nice if someone made a LED housing for the KK but they don't and most likely won't. They do make one for the KJ though. They make halo's too but I'm not into those. I just want good modern headlights.
I tried the silverstar ultras and a set of Hellas and neither had a wow factor compared to what they cost.

Have you actually seen these things? They have CREE LEDs with drivers and a fan built into them for cooling.

Then you will be drastically disappointed with replacement LED headlight bulbs for the cost.Plus if you get snow/ice your really SOL at night.

I haven't heard or read anything good on the replacement bulbs. Complete housing yes some of them are real good but not just the bulbs themselves

It's one thing when the heatsink is the housing and the LED's are very close to the lens, unlike the halogen housing that LED will be very far from the lens and ice up.Many have even reported the same icing issues with the whole LED replacement housings and they engineered them to vent heat from the heatsink to the lense.

I didn't even think of that, good point. I've seen 1/4" of ice build up around my headlight lenses last winter. Everywhere but where the light shines through.

I haven't seen anything at all about LED bulbs for headlights until a couple days ago. The HID bulbs aren't a good idea because of the incorrect geometry. I know Cree LEDs are very bright. I didn't even think about the heat keeping the lens clear from ice.
I still may give them a shot for summertim, if they're bright enough but they'll definatly go straight back if they aren't.

those cree bulbs put out 2k lumens low beam and 2600 high compare that to stock which is 1700 low beam and 1850 high.

they do put out little to no heat so ice build up in winter can be an issue but then again if you leave the stock fog light bulbs the housings will warm up.

The light is white also. The LEDs I have make my halogens look yellow, even the hella bulbs that were there till my socket failed and took one with it, they looked yellow too. I was considering doing the driving light bulb as well so I'd probably have to switch them when winter gets here. I probably only need them in the summer anyway, I don't do alot of driving in the winter unless I have to.
I asked about returning them, they told me I have seven days for a refund minus a restocking fee. Don't know what that is yet. Unless the law is different for Internet sales, according to the mail order act I have 30 days for a full refund if I'm not satisfied. :dizzy:

Most company's have a small return window and re-stocking fee which is usually 15% of the cost of the product. Some items like electrical your lucky to have the ability to return since most are considered "open package and no return" policy. They just have to have some type of policy unless for special order parts, you'd spend more time and $$$ trying to fight it.

the wrangler forums love these bulbs, I have seen them on a coworkers wrangler, they look great, I have not seen them in the dark but day light still produces massive amounts more light than stock I feel (we went into a paring garage to check the out)
