You won't be disappointed!
This was the final key to perfect the other performance Mods I have done, CIA and Muffler.

Findings.... :P

K&N wasn't a great addition with this.. It was sucking way to much hot air into the engine and making a lot of noise. Yeah it sounds great!
K&N taken off and I'm looking for a mod using the stock air-box and a 3" on each end tube from air-box to throttle body & some sort of bigger intake in the grill or headlight area.

Now you guys said you have to install it upside down for it to fit.
But the only thing keeping it from installing right-side up, is the 2 alignment pins on the intake manifold. (If you install it upside-down the alignment pins are outside the TB mounting surface.) So what I did was to simply ream the holes on the 4.7 TB to match up with the pins on the intake. I did not want to Mod my intake by removing the pins...
In the following Pic, at the tip of the red lines, you can see the original alignment pin holes on the 4.7 TB.
The yellow line tips are where I had to ream them out, to get it to work on my 3.7 intake. The bolt holes line up perfectly and the gasket still seals it.

Here is a Pic of it installed.

It fits right where the original TB was located, I was a little concerned because it is a little larger on the bottom, but there was enough room to fit just like it was made for it.
Couple more Pics of the install.

Now comes the issue of the air tube.
My DIY CIA uses a 3" smooth bore RV sewer pipe for the connection to the TB. But 3" ID needs to go to a 3.125" OD TB.
I was hoping to be able to heat up the sewer pipe and stretch it over the new TB... But it did not work. So tomorrow I will need to get a new intake tube to go from the air box to the TB. For now I used the same coupler I was using on my OEM TB which makes the inside diam 2.75"(approx). Kinda defeats the purpose of the new TB, but at least I can drive it.
Image

The other thing I thought of, that was not previously mentioned, was the intake manifold opening. What good does a larger TB do if the intake hole is the same size as the original TB? To my surprise the intake manifold opening is actually larger then the original TB opening, and just a hair smaller then the new one.
Now I have the little bugger installed and hoping the rig will run.
WOW fired right up on the first try! YEA!
I was warned by Gageraid the RPMs seem to hang a little longer, which they did. Each time I reved the engine the RPMs would hang there, rev a little more and the RPMs go up again and stay there... I'm thinking DANG IT! It's not going to work!!!
Finally at 4000 RPM it broke, and dropped to a 1000 RPM idle. A few more revs and it dropped to a 700 RPM idle with very little hanging at the top RPM. I think the rig was just getting a feel for it. Anyway, it is acting almost like normal again. Tomorrow comes the road test.
After I get a new air tube, I will post back with more Pics.

Where is your airflow sensor? I don't see it in the tubing ?

In Pic 5 it is in the intake. Kinda hard to see.
Here is another Pic before I did the TB switch.

It is on the back side closer to the air box then the TB.
Look down from the yellow oil dipstick. You can see the red and blue of the plugin.

Got my 4.7 tb ordered for $59 shipped. My 09 4x4 gets 15 mpg mostly highway miles, but at 70+ mph 90% of the time, lol.

Doing better than me, I average anywhere from 12-14mpg with a mostly highway mix. Pure interstate I can net about 16-17, sometimes 18mpg. If it's all flat it'll pull around 20mpg. I like to cruise anywhere from 70 to 85mph.

anyone able to use the hypertech to adjust for the 4.7? I know when I plug the hypertech into the pc there is an option to select 07-10 4.7l jeep......however I'm pretty sure that wont work on ours. I am now able to squeal the tires from a stop!

The 4.7 is a V8 so I doubt it will do any good to try it.

SCAR you are 100% correct. :( what do your RPMs do when idle in gear or coasting at slow speed -35mph? Mine has been sitting around 600-800. feels low when driving in stop and go traffic 4 hes a day; continually dropping gears between n-1-2......

I'm interested in the TB. Those of you running the 4.7 are you happy with the performance?

I was super stoked at first. Nopt sure if the computer re-learned or if I'm slightly slugish for another reason. I can still get the tires to chirp but it doesnt seem like they chipr as much over the last couple weeks. I may have just gotten used to it. BUT for 50 bucks its GREAT!

LOVE it! It was only after I did the TB swap that I started getting mileage I can live with.

To get the most gains from this Mod, I would recommend also getting a free flowing muffler and do something on the intake as well. If nothing else get a good quality less restrictive air filter.

Just ordered a WK TB off ebay to install on my 2011. This week I had a 4" SS snorkel fitted for dust and water crossings. It got me thinking about your TB mod again because of the difference the snorkel seems to have made to throttle responce.

Anyway this has me thinking tunning again as well. ECU. If after market tuners are able to tune the 3.7 V6 in other makes why not then the KK http://www.bgperformance.com/vehicles-b ... -can-tune/ .

Anyway sorry to dig up an old thread. I will let you know how the 4.7 TB goes with a 4" snorkel feeding it. I'm planning on a new custom air intake pipe too. Infact advice on optimal I.D would be appreciated. Whether to match it to the TB ID or have it tapper down to it for increased speed etc.

Cheers
