Post subject:  Is a flash needed if swapping to headlights with fogs?

Im wanting to swap my headlights in my 2012 Liberty Sport to the headlights that have the fogs actually in there and not just blank inserts.

I have seen conflicting info regarding this. First I want to know if this is pretty simple to swap out the entire headlight and also install the new blinker/light control stick on the steering column myself.

Do I need anything else other than new headlights with fogs, and the controls? Some sort of additional wiring kit?

And finally, is a flash from Jeep really required? I have seen others state they did this and did NOT need to take it up to jeep for a flash.

Technically, yes. But I believe a member found a way around it. Let me see if I can find the thread.

Edit- Whoops, I mistook the Mopar wiring harness work around for the flash from the dealer. It still has to be activated by the dealer.

OK so the flash must be done by Jeep

looking over that thread it seems he kind of pieced it together and made it work, is there an entire headlight with fogs kit that has everything I need, other than the flash? IE headlights with fogs, wiring and control stick. I would rather spend the cash and get all 100% Mopar items ready to go, no splicing or any of that.

My plan is to just go ahead and get the already darkened ones so its a full upgrade for me.

Check to see if you have the plugs for the fog lamps already. If not, you will need the overlay harness. Installing the new control stick is pretty easy, the hardest part is re-pining the connector on the TIPM to add the overlay harness. I did all the work myself, minus the flash, and only had to pay $15 for the dealer to update it. It actually updates the info in Chrysler's system so it will show Fog lamps (LNJ) as a dealer installed option.

Not trying to hijack here, but did anyone ever find out how much it costs for the dealer to do everything? From getting the headlights, harness and installation there?

The kit from the dealer is around 329. Labor would probably be around an hour, so at least another $100. The lights are the most expensive part, so you can save by getting aftermarket ones, especially if you want the black bezels. You can buy the overlay harness and left multifunction switch separately, however you cannot get the pigtail that pins into the TIPM. What I did was get a similar part from a PT cruiser, cut the terminals off, then re-pin it with the correct terminals.

I can get brand new black headlights w/ fogs for $200 that includes both. So then I can go to the dealership and just purchase the rest of the kit and have them install?

Kind of, there is one part that you can only get in the full $330 kit, but you can modify a similar part to fit. Take a look at these instructions/parts list for the kit: http://www.jeepworld.com/accessories/in ... ht_ifu.pdf

Items F (68041485AD) and E (05166846AA) are sold separately, but D is not. You can make your own D by getting 05191986AA and replacing the terminal ends with molex 33001-2004 terminals. As long as the dealer is willing to make that D part for you, then you should be good to go.

Here's the problem, 2011 & 2012 apparently have a different TIPM connector than other years. The connector apparently doesn't have blanks like 08-10. This means adding factory fog lights is a bit challenging. You could always wire them to an aftermarket switch but using the stock switch may not be possible. I do have some pin for the TIPM if you want to try it. Just send me a PM.
