There have been three confirmed fires in TIPMs in the Nitro posted on line.

All these were reported to NHTSA. Funny how those 3 were not mentioned in the article. But I'm not surprised, since Dodge confiscated the burnt up TIPMs after they were replaced. In each case Dodge said it was for the "core". In reality it was to bury the problem. Also in each case the owner was stuck holding the bill. One cost 3K+ to repair because the wiring was so burnt up they had to replace 3 major wire harnesses.
I also like how they said it did not effect the safety/driveability of the vehicle.
Hum, let me think, My car is on fire, but it still drives OK. So it must be OK to keep going.
I guess someone has to die before a recall will be issued...
This also does not take into account the number of TIPM that were replaced because the door locks stopped working. Because it "Did not not effect the safety/driveability of the vehicle."
The door lock relays are internal to the TIPM and are just barely able to handle the electrical draw of the locks.
Repeated locking /unlocking will fry the relays and then the locks stop working...
