Good morning,

I am looking for a wiring diagram or general information on the KK headlight multiswitch.

I am in the process of installing additional lighting and would like to tap into the headlight-on wire to generate a signal wire to trigger a separate relay. I could find wiring diagrams for JK's, KJ's, and others, but not KK.

Any help or additional information is appreciated. Thanks!

-Oban

Won't do you much good. The multifunction switch is a CAN module.
When you turn the switch it sends a low voltage computer message over the CAN network to the CCN (cluster), which in turn relays that message to the TIPM (computerized fuse box), which then sends power to the lights selected. :dizzy:
For what you want to do, I'd tap the wires going to the lights, or the marker lights as a trigger.
Do not run accessories direct from the OEM wires!

Scaro is right about the left control stalk not working for what you'd like to do here.

Tapping into the wire going into the headlight to trigger (not power) a relay gave me problems with the headlights not working though. Still happens every now and then after removing the relay.

Here are a coue pages from the service manual to take a look at:

That being the case, then I'd go with the marker/park light. It is on its own separate circuit from the headlamps.

Thank y'all! Looking at the diagram I will most likely tap into the parking lights. I am worried that the current change of the hi-low-beam and the current being pulled is not the best to trigger a relay.

Thanks again for the wiring. Big help!

PS: How much I hate modern CAN bus... good old times were so simple.

Atthehelm,

do you happen to have the wiring diagram for the parking lights also? If so, it would be most awesome if you could upload it as well. Thanks!!!

Took me a while to figure it all out and get the parts, but the plan is as follows:

- Run an Add-A-Circuit to pick up a signal from the low-beams; this will act as a trigger wire
- I will have a bevel switch on the dash for the light bar. This switch will trigger a SPST relay which picks up its main 12V directly from a bus bar, which in return hocks to the battery terminal.
- The relay will allow power to flow to another relay, this time a SPDT. This second relay will use the low beam trigger wire to route power either through a PWM dimmer for LED's, or directly to he light bar.
- The PWM dimmer will be adjusted so the LED bar doesn't blind people when the low beams are on.
- When the high beams are on / or the headlights are completely off, I will have full power on the light bar.

All circuits will be properly fused and grounded. Weatherpack connectors will be used to build a proper harness.

So... yeah... that's the plan (for now).

Re "The Plan"...
These were the T-shirts the Roadies were wearing at The Who concert last week in San Diego:

" THE PLAN:
- PULL THE STUFF OUT OF THE TRUCK
- DO THE SHOW
- PUT THE STUFF BACK IN THE TRUCK
- REPEAT "

Re wiring tip, I also will follow this excellent advice and use the marker circuit to trigger the dimmer relay inside my new boost/egt/transtemp combo gauge.
The LJ brain-trust prevails yet again.
Thanks!!!

[Just noticed this thread is 5yrs old, lol. Still good info!]
