Looking to see if anyone has added an aftermarket alarm/remote start to their jeep.
Any tutorials or instructions on it and or recommendations ?

My parent's added a remote start to my Jeep as a Christmas present last year. No idea how much or what kind, but it uses the original key. I just hit the lock button 3 times to start it.

I have the same type of remote start. I hit the lock button 3 times and it starts. The unit cost $99 on eBay from a company called Fortin, I believe. Quick and easy install. The only issue is that now the red circular security light flashes after starting but it didn't used to. This has only started happening after I had a reflash done for the clock issue, it seems.

Mine doesn't flash, but I do get it every so often when I use the remote start. Not sure what it means or anything. I normally just kill the Jeep and restart and it goes away.

The only other issue that I have, which I forgot about until this morning, is that I often times lose a preset for Sirius when using the remote start.

I installed the Fortin EVO-CHRT5 remote start unit today and it works great!

I've been using an Encore remote for a few years now. Works pretty great and excellent range for the most part.

When you hit the lock button 3 times does the jeep honk 3 times too?

Mine does. Then it honks again a few seconds after it starts.

Yeah that last honk is the doors locking. I assume it has to unlock them before it'll start.

Viper cmd start installed by an aftermarket shop, decent range, 2 way receiver so it makes a chime when it knows the vehicle is starting

The honk feature can be turned off.

From the 2008 KK owners manual, page 22:

Quote:
Sound Horn with Lock
This feature will cause the horn to chirp when the doors are locked with the transmitter. This feature can be turned on or turned off. To change the current setting, proceed as follows:

• For vehicles equipped with the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC), refer to “Sound Horn with Remote Key Lock,” under “Personal Settings (Customer Programmable Features),” under “Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC)” in Section 4 of this manual.

• For vehicles not equipped with the EVIC, perform the following steps:
1. Press the Lock button on a programmed (i.e. functional) transmitter for at least 4 seconds, but no longer than 10 seconds. Then, press the Panic button while still holding the Lock button.
2. Release both buttons at the same time.
3. Test the feature from outside the vehicle by pressing the Lock button on the transmitter.
4. Repeat these steps if you want to return this feature to its previous setting.

I too am running the Fortin EVO-CHRT5. I turned off the honking so I don't wake my neighbors when I leave to go hunting. My only complaint is the range but for a $100 DIY plug and play it's not that bad. A long range antenna can be added.
