Figured I'd put it out there in a thread of it's own instead of burying it one of the countless oil filter threads out there.

For those of us that have a real hard time getting at the darn oil filter without busting up our arms or making a real mess of things.....

It was mentioned that you could take out the driver's side headlamp for easier access to the filter.

I was intrigued but skeptical. So, yesterday I did it...

WOOHOO! It made my oil change a breeze! No jack, no ramps, just a drain pan, and a socket wrench.

Seriously, the grill pops out easy after pulling out the little plastic rivets. Then the headlamp comes out by removing three torx screws.

After that, you can just reach in to the space and the filter is right there. Great leverage as well. I was able to remove it and replace it by hand without any worries if it was tight enough or not.

Here is what it looks like....

Not zoomed... just moved my phone closer..

So, for those that struggle with the darn filter.. it is worth the 10 minutes it takes to pull the grill and headlamp.

It also gives you a straight shot to the front UCA bolts. Just a heads up, it looks like there's a hose caught on the oil filter (front diff vent?). You might want to pull it off, otherwise you're gonna have a hole rubbed through it.

The hose in question is loose and just moves around, it wasn't tight against the filter.

That said, I just move it over to pull the filter and always slide it back when done. It is moved over in the picture since I wasn't going to take them if it didn't prove to be easier. So, I had already reached in to start the process before snapping the picture.

I'm glad you came up with a great idea to change the oil filter but to do all that work seems to indicate a complete failure by Jeep engineers. My secret is having a tall son with long arms... he has no problem removing and installing the oil filter, where when I do it it seems pulling the motor out would be quicker and easier!
