Post subject: | Electronic Throttle Control Light |
This morning i started my car and pulled out onto my street and as i accelerated my rpms dropped to 1000 and then the car stopped accelerating. As this happened the Electronic Throttle Control light came on. So i pull over and shut the car off and then i tried to start the car and it would not turn over it acted much like when you have a dead battery. So i turn the car off for a few minutes and try again and this time the car almost started, so i let it sit a little longer and i finally got it started but the engine would not rev above 2,000. So i pull it back into my driveway and left it for a hour and then started it and it started up fine but still would not rev. So i drive it around the block for a but and now it would accelerate fine and rev to about 5000. Anyone know what may cause this? |

Pull off the intake tube to the throttle body and manually move the butterfly valve by hand, it could be sticking. If the inside of the throttle body is dirty, give it a good cleaning. |

Went to the Mechanic the jeep threw a bunch of codes. He spent two days chasing the issues and says the throttle body needs to be replaced. |

Time to upgrade to the 4.7 TB? ![]() Asked about that and the Mechanic was not to keen on changing throttle bodies if I'm not doing the exhaust. He said that you are putting more air and gas into the car so therefore you need a new exhaust to handle it. |

In that case, you might consider ordering a used 3.7 throttle body from http://www.car-part.com and swapping it out yourself. There are some listed on there for as little as $30. Remanufactured 3.7 TB on http://www.rockauto.com is $187 by comparison. Still not too bad. |

Where is the part on the engine and do you need to reprogram the car after the parts installed? |

Throttle body is in the back and directly center of your engine. You'll see you intake tubing going into it. |

You shouldn't need to reprogram it at all, that's the only good thing about the new computers, if something is a little off it will figure it out on its own |
