So today my MIL pointed out that I had a slow drip oil leak in my KK. (I had leaked onto her concrete driveway). And I confirmed that it was indeed oil. Just had the oil changed recently, so I figured maybe the drain bolt or the filter was loose and leaking a bit. Well, it turns out that my oil pan may need replacement. Took it back to the lube shop to have them tighten it all up and they said that it looked like the pan was starting to corrode through. Now I'm going to get confirmation on it before buying parts, but how do you replace the oil pan? I know on the KJ its a bit of a pain to change. Is it as hard on the KK? Thanks in advance! Take some pics of the oil pan...I find it hard to believe that it's rusted thriigh enough to start leaking. |

Pretty much the same on KJs and KKs But unless you've not washed under it at all and driven in a lot of salted roads/ beaches shouldn't be rusted |

I live in Western New York (Buffalo area). They salt the roads all winter. So yeah, multiple salty winters around here. Like driving in seawater and then leaving it sit for 6 months. Everything rusts. I'll get some pics when I can and post them here. Out-wheeling JKs in my KK. BOOYAH! |

find a trusted mechanic in your area. going to those quickie shops do a pi$$ poor job. ive had my mechanic since the family moved back in 99. their shop has 5 bays and is a bit shady, but they do a great job every time any of our 5 vehicles go in. (maybe they treat us good because were a constant customer) the slow "drip" may be from the oil spilled when they dropped the pan. or they over tightened the gasket. just like NAM, I find it hard to believe that you need a new pan. assuming your KK is an 08. |

Mine spent the last 12 years in Northern Ohio with salted etc roads and still good. Of course it also was washed underneath at least 3-4 times a month even during winter |

Ok. Crawled under and got a few pictures. Oil is still leaking. Just a very slow drip.   Also, I'm not good about getting car washes. I think I've had 4 all winter. I just don't have the time or money for tons of expensive car washes and I don't own a power washer. Sent from Tapatalk 2 because Tapatalk 4 sucks. |

That is kind of a poor excuse, I spent 11 Dollars at a self service car wash last night and had 30 minutes of time to wash the crap out of everything. Belly included. Usually I spend less than 8, and I always use the spare quarters from my change jar, so it doesn't really cost me anything. |

 The optimist in me saws try replacing just oil pan bolt. Looks like it could be leaking from there. But it also looks like it's leaking from two other spots...in the middle of the pan... |

The closest wash to my house is 30 minutes away and the wash with under spray is 20 bucks. Also, I have 3 kids and a mortgage to pay for, car washes don't rate very high. Maybe you are rich and so that's not a "poor excuse" for you, but for a middle class working guy like me it certainly isn't. I mean, it took me 7 years to finally have the spare cash for a lift. Thankfully the pan isn't expensive as parts go, and I figure when I'm installing my lift kit I can drop the front axle and swap the pan. According to my googling that is the easiest way to do it. ok, now that is really bad! not washing your car in the winter is the absolute worst thing you could do to a car besides not changing the oil. a do it yourself wash shouldn't be more then 3 bucks. a car is the 2nd biggest investment in your life. a jeep is the largest investment in your life. and please don't feel like were attacking you. its just that these issues shouldn't happen for a while with proper maintenance. |

I can't tell from some of the videos, but I don't think you need to remove anything but the oil pan for its removal. You'll need to fanangle it a bit but should fit right up there haha. |

You cannot hand wash a vehicle outside in those temps unless you have the right cold weather gear, or are insane. This means expensive automated washes only. Really. I do not have the time and money to spend on car washes. I don't. I wash the jeep when I can, which means very few over the winter. That's just the way it is. Nope. Its a fully automated wash. There is actually a "buggy wash" attached to a gas station that is closer, but it has no doors. Just great big open portals . It was also shut down most of the winter due to the extreme cold. Sent from Tapatalk 2 because Tapatalk 4 sucks. |

I've laid in the driveway with 6-8 inches of snow on the ground before with a hose running straight from my hot water heater to hose mine out. Then pulled in the garage and cranked up the heat  Crazy?? Of course but its what keeps mine on the road for 12-14-15 years and more and no rust |

I've washed my KK in the snow plenty of times and have went to the carwash to spray the jeep down plenty of times. they made a fortune from me. I only summer detailed my KK 2ce. doing that was a pain!  hands were close to falling off. and drying was the worst since it just froze or smeared.

I wouldn't even attempt that. Of course, I have a new build house with one of those fancy water systems that you can't attach a hose to, so that's not even an option for me. The new house is also why I can't afford lots of car washes. Lol! Oh well. Gotta keep the wife happy. As they say, if momma ain't happy ain't nobody happy. The guy is asking for advice about his car, not wanting to be lectured on how often he should wash it... In saying that, I looked at the photo you posted and that pan does not look good at all. It looks rusted alright. It's not an overly hard job, if you have a garage and se basic tools you may be able to do it yourself. Otherwise a mechanic shouldn't charge all that much. A couple hours work at most. One last point, that is some significant corrosion. I think you should take the time to do a full inspection of the under carriage especially rubber boots and see if everything else is still intact. If you're boots are gone your upper and lower ball joints will go as dirt and salt wear them down and then you're looking at many more hours labor and parts to fix. |
