Had my KK do something really odd last night. Wondering if anyone else has had it happen or if anyone has any idea what caused it. Details below, don't want to leave anything out. Drove it home from work, about a 30 minute drive. Stopped at my neighbors house, shut it off, ran in for five minutes, cranked up and left, no issues. Got home, shut it off, probably stayed there ten minutes. Came back out, that's where the problem started. Hit the switch like normal, sounded like it was gonna crank, but then kinda sputtered out. I had already took my hand off the key, but once it didn't crank, the starter just kept turning. I guess that has something to do with the way you just have to bump the switch, then let off and it will crank, so I assume that part is normal. Anyway, tried this three or four more times and it didn't crank. So I started playing with the throttle to try and keep it running once it fired and finally after about the third time of doing this it fired right up, but the rpm's seemed to hang a little higher than normal for a minute. Once it idled down, I shut it off, tried it again and it fired right up. Its been fine since. So my question is, was it just a fluke deal? Or is this a sign of a bigger problem to come? I don't want to get out in the middle of no where or worse the wife get out in it with our baby and it not crank. Thanks for any help! |

That same thing happened to me about 4 months ago. I ran to a store quick, and when I came out, the car did the exact same thing. I was able to get it started up after about 5-10 minutes of playing around with it. I haven't had an issue with it since. I asked around, and everyone said that it could be signs that my starter was going. I actually forgot about it until you posted, so I'm curious what others come up with. The reason the car still tried cranking over when you took your hand off the key is because we have tip start ignitions. You can put the key in and turn it all the way to the IGN setting, then turn it to ON before the engine even starts up, and the car will still start. If the car doesn't start in a few seconds, it will automatically stop the starter from overworking. |

Yeah I assumed mine would stop, but I didn't let it keep going to see, I did notice a difference it sound after after the engine stopped firing, starter didn't sound as strong. Me not being the only one that has had this happen does worry me it's some sort of problem. |

Oh no, not you too? Here's my thread on the topic. Mine appears to be temperature related. viewtopic.php?f=88&t=81562 |

On one hand, I hope it never does it again, but on the other hand, I hope it does it more often so I can just fix the dang thing! |

Right!?! Or worse you waste the time to take it in & they can't replicate it only for it to happen when you get home ![]() |

Mine also started doing this last summer. Nothing worse than meeting with a possible client, discussing my KK and their Wrangler, getting in the Jeep to leave and then.... kkkkkkkkkKKKKKk! No START!! (Yes, I have noticed the "PUN?") ![]() Where I live is always uphill both ways, so now I try to meet clients downtown. ![]() ...OK, just followed TOYs' forum link, as well as watched the video. Not sure which part is the cause now. Engine/Coolant temp sensor, fuel pump, or starter? I've never let it go for the full 15 seconds though - Always shut it off right away when it happens. Usually starts up second or third try. Have only needed to let it sit the 10-15 mins on two occasions. |

This has happened three times to my 2011 Liberty in the last 3 months. Additionally, I have had issues with my TIPM, had to replace that, and had to replace the transfer case actuator motor. 200 miles later, it seems my final drive control module is bad. My Liberty has succumbed to three major electronic failures...and it has only 24000 miles on it. Needless to say, I'm a bit frustrated as the warranty ran out at three years and all of this is out of pocket. |

Mine's done it one more time within the last month, but that's it and I basically drive it EVERY day. |

I've heard a rumor this may have to do with leaking injectors or possibly the PCV valve. Nothing confirmed yet by the KA guys... |
