I think you need to edit this post a little to clarify what you're asking.
By "pitting", are you having trouble removing some sort of blemishes on the clear cover of the headlights? Have you tried using a clay bar or the old tale of toothpaste?

Pitting from like sand or salt and I haven't tried anything yet thought I would try for some opinions first, I thought about using toothpaste but it's not faded it has tiny chips out of the clear lense cover. So I was thinking of maybe sanding it and buffing but I don't know.

Hope th is clears it up a little bit

A sand and buff and then some clearcoat maybe?

I've used the Mother's headlights restoring kit before. It takes some elbow greese with the little wet sanding pads they supply in the kit but the results looked good. I've also used it to shave the raised plastic lettering found on some automotive reflectors, which no one really notices so I'm not too sure was worth the time.

Im going to get this kit and see how it goes I guess I wish you could just buy a new clear lense and not the whole housing

Looks like they made the Mother's kit even better, no more little wet sanding pads

Yep much easier looking to use since it comes with the drill adaptor. And I am probably buying this kit tonight

It's a little uneasy when you start with the rougher pads as the plastic turns white & you think you've just destroyed your lights but keep following the direction and it turns out well.

I'm a bit late, but try a clay bar there. You'll be amazed with the results.
