Hi Folks,

Well, the Libby had a rough weekend. A Malibu came barreling through an intersection in front of me and there was no time to stop, so the Libby took its boot right in the mouth and got her face torn off. It sucks, but no one was hurt, so it's all good - just plastic and metal. I was just about to install my new Rocky Road roof rails and crossbars to take her on a canoe trip, which is a bummer though.

It felt like she took the hit like a champ, but there appears to be damage to the frame. Does anyone know what is involved in properly repairing this frame damage and how it may affect the structural integrity? The doors stick a little now. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I want to be able to discuss it when the other parties' insurance company comes out to take a look.

Thanks!

-Dick

That steel crossmember is replaceable..the part doesn't cost very much but the labor will be a lot.. Hopefully the other driver is deemed at fault so their insurance covers it.

Sucks this happened, glad you're alright.

Thank you! She was at fault, so her insurance company should take care it. I just want to make sure they don't cut any corners.

maybe work your way into an ATH bumper  with the other insurance company. install it yourself. both bumpers final price probably are about the same.

The KK uses a unibody/frame combo to save on weight. They can be tricky to work on. You need to get a full body examination because of the crumple zones. I would insist on a strip down of all plastic forward of the rear doors to be able to check the metal underneath, under the hood, axle mounts, front X-fer case mount , maybe even the trany area, and the entire front suspension system. All that stuff connects to each other starting in front of the front axle.

Anyway, Glad the Jeep did its job and kept you safe.

Thank you, ScarO! Much appreciated. I will discuss this with the adjuster.

That sounds like a pretty awesome idea. I will see if that's possible.

I was able to substitute one of the atthehelm bumpers when mine was repaired. Be VERY careful driving without a bumper, at 65 mph, your fender flares will tear off, they're about $150 each so...

What year is your Liberty? They may (and more than likely will) offer an aftermarket or LKQ (like kind and quality) bumper replacement. So the cost may be quite a bit than if it were an OEM bumper. You may need to make up the price difference out of pocket for an ATH bumper.

That's exactly what I did. Short 200 bucks for my rear. I'm not worried about the price though, having an ATH product is well worth it.

Once you get the front bumper from insurance plan on buying the rear. Though the front of our KKs are sexy. KJs wish they were us :SOMBRERO:
