wife and I took our 2008 bone stock KK 6-speed, with only city tires, loaded with camping gear, up the OHV route/trail - its a nasty trail, and I should not have done it; but the KK did GREAT. The traction control is brilliant. On occasion we had one wheel in the air locked up, the other three wheels driving forward. I took a 2nd spare (full size), just in case. We had a stock Nissan 4x4 truck with home made camper shell accompanying us.

We camped on Mt. Raymond, great views east and west. Day hiked down to the lakes and back. Had three deer visit us this morning, and yesterday saw a Bald Eagle catch a fish on lower Star Lake.

Sounds like an awesome trip! The KK has a very capable 4WD system, and it sounds like you chose your lines wisely. The stock ground clearance on the KK isn't the greatest (especially with an '08 as the springs sag with time), but that can be easily remedied. Did you scrape bottom at all on that trail?

well, there were bangs and the odd scrape, I think all from the front end. I have not crawled under the car to check. The key is to try and go slowly to minimize the impact of the "bang". And there were also internal clunks from the front end. But it drove down the mountain and back home just fine. We camped at around 8,500 ft.
