Can anyone recommend a good brand for tail light guards? I've seen some posts on tail light guards that chewed up the paint and problems getting them to fit.

Thanks,
Nate

My "guards" aren't plastic, they're aluminim...although they're uselessly glued straight to the cover...

But they look cool!

alright so im a newb and asked this question myself a while back. i was hoping to find something that might protect the lights offroad and not cost alot... i ended up getting a set of ones off ebay(cost me $100 but i figured it was worth a one time try). same style as the steelcraft brand(either polished stainless, or powercoated black) about four days after getting these and putting them on (the install is tricky as the holes dont align perfectly). i and about 5 other jeep members(3 wranglers, 1 grand cherokee) went out to the local spot at night. all were lifted except for me.

on one of the downhill potions of a steep downhill that had been made even worse by runoff... my passenger rear slid into the wall pretty hard (the wall being mostly dirt, clay, and some rock outcropping) i thought i had taken out my rear passenger fender... later once i was out of the area and had a chance to look at it i was able to see that the taillight guard had taken all the damage/force and probably saved me from ruffing up anything else or braking my light. the only issue was due to the force of whatever i slid into the guard hard been pushed flush against my light. the two prongs that hold the guard onto my light between the liftgate and light had been bent over my liftgate so at the moment i couldnt open it... after using a pair of pliers and bending the tabs back i was able to unbend the guard and free my liftgate. once that was done i took off the guard and corrected it, and made sure no other damage was there (with these guards there is a tab that you put on the outside of the taillight that hold it on so it doesnt move)

no other damage was visible to i finished fixing the guard and tossed it back on..... but because of the tabs bending it did take away some of the black powdercoating and now looks rusty. i havent bothers to respray with bedliner or anything.....but still holds firm(grabbing with both hands i can shake my whole jeep)

so as i am well aware most people call these more harm then their worth, and that they might mostly be for looks, occasionally they can help you out or have an actual purpose. although i do think they could add to the damage as well.. but if you want something that might provide you some protection and make you jeep look more jeeplike? then if you dont mind the cost go for it... i think they look good, and whether they serve a purpose or not really depends on the situation your in... in mine id like to believe that it did...

also after doing research before buying i heard a few people state that the tabs on the guards scraped up paint on their liftgate edge... i solved that issue by buying a role of black edgeguard that i just places alone the area between the liftgate and guard tabs.. has stayed on and kept the tabs from wearing on my hatch....
