(ABS) BRAKE and TC lights are illuminated on 2012 KK

Hello everyone
My name is Geoffrey and I have just recently (a week) purchased a 2012 Jeep Liberty JET EDITION with 47k on the clock and all the trimmings... :JEEPIN:

I have a problem i cant figure out... yesterday my (ABS) and PARKING BRAKE lights came on.. then when i put it in drive and move no more than 10 feet the traction control light came on. :banghead:

Like a good boy i followed my operators manual and it says its because the brake fluid is low... it isnt but i toped it of with the approved DOT3 to the max mark still the lights were on.... the manual does say the (ABS) should come on during ANY braking but it dosen't... and the cruise control wont work now.. BUT heres the kicker... it dosen't do it all the time...drove to work this morning and everything was fine... went to lunch... its back again.. so i kneel to you masters of the jeep please help this noob

Most likely one of the ABS sensors is going bad or has a bad wire or connection....
A common problem... :wink:

Need to be scanned by a dealer or mechanic with a scanner to find which one is causing the problem. Once located, you can change one yourself if you have the proper tools... :wink:

Sweet! it's still under the dealer Worryty...so i hope theyll replace it for free, i doubt it but i can only hope..

Just called the dealer and they said it could be a wheel speed sensor??... is he just jerking me around or is this a possibility?
Also my TPS light just started flashing and is now constant and looks like it isnt reading the rear starboard tire pressure.... i dont have the manual with me.. what the hell is going on?!?!?!?!.. :banghead:

Let the dealer deal with it.
DO NOT disconnect the battery as this will reset the codes the dealer needs to see.

ABS sensor and wheel speed sensor are one in the same part, some just call them by different names; both tell the ABS OBC whats going on at the wheel. If its under warranty, let them diagnose and replace the problem part. TPS sensor has nothing to do with the ABS system problem, just a coincidence of events....being it is still under warranty, try to get them to replace the TPS sensor as well as they can be costly to purchase and replace and some have to be programmed once replaced... :wink:

I will be calling the dealership tomorow and making an appointment.. thanks all for the help!... im new to new vehicles... first time ive ever had all this fancy stuff! It sounds to be a common problem, is there any way to prevent this from happening in the future?

Rodger that! hmmmmmm a bit of 3M Dieletric grease in the connections cant hurt... but it or they need to be replaced first.

check the alignment. highly doubt the sensor is faulty at that mileage. possibly its unplugged somewhere.

also, check the spare tire pressure.

Ok it did it again! :banghead:

So drove it to the stealership with the lights glaring on the dash and they plugged in Thier reader and nothing..???? :ALONE:

No records of it ever happening before either what the hell is going on? Please help me gurus of the KK universe!!!

Pull the drivers kick panel off. Check the ground wires. Feel them, they may be hot. Make sure they are clean and tight.

Are these The grounding wires for the whole vehicle?!? or just the sensors/OBDII system??? its showing other codes from the past.. but not the ones i need.

Did they say what the old codes were? There could be some info there. Normally the BRAKE light doesn't come on with a bad sensor, just the ABS, trac, and ESP/BAS lights. It might be a brake pedal switch thats on its way out.

They are the ground wires for the cluster, WCM, and a few other things. A KA owner was having the same issue, and after 2 new sensors, and a $ visit to the dealer, it was those ground wires that were corroded, loose, and hot to the touch. Which were the cause.
