I am about 2,000 miles short of an oil change however, I got an alert on my HUD saying to change oil required. As a precaution the other night I stopped by the gas station on my way home and checked my oil but the level looked fine. I am going to take it in to look at tomorrow before work but I wanted to know if this has ever occurred with anyone else?

It is possible the oil change message was not reset the last time your oil was changed. For example, Jeep says change the oil every 6000 miles, but say you changed it at 4000 miles. The light was off at the time so the tech didn't reset it. Now, 2000 miles later it comes on. Of course, the Jeep computer modifies that 6000 based on if you used tow/haul, etc. but it wouldn't be on so soon even if you did do some towing.

The oil change reset procedure is pretty easy. Turn the key to run, but don't start the Jeep. Depress the gas pedal to the floor three times within 10 seconds. Turn the key to off. That should reset it.

I try to change my oil every 3000-4000 miles. IMO 6000 seems a bit of a stretch.

Turn the key to the "on" position without starting it. Press the gas pedal to the floor 3-times within 10-seconds. Turn the key to the "off" position. This will clear the "Change Engine Oil" alert and you'll be good to go. Whoever did your last oil change didn't do this.

Out of curiosity, do you think it would be worth taking in just to be safe then resetting it?

I wouldn't worry about it. IMO it would be a waste of your time, and the dealerships time. If you feel like you need to, or if it would make you feel better, take it in. If it's not under warranty anymore, they might charge you a service fee.

2k miles short, you mean of that 6 or 8k mile interval the book says, or a typical 3-4k mile interval? If it helps you I change mine every 3-4k miles. The message normally pops up around 3500 miles. If it'll make you feel better to get your oil changed, by all means do it. It'll cost like $25/30 to have most places do it (I have firestone change mine, it's actually cheaper to go to them over doing it myself...).

In the end it is an idiot light
Like so many things they we now have to put up with they install it so that those idiots who totally forget to do anything are reminded to do it
Whatever your change schedule is stick to it and be happy

Different states have different costs. Here in Georgia, it would cost me $50 at a Firestone place. You also have to look into what kind of oil they use...some of the places use the reconstituted oil (basically filtered, cleaned, previously used oil).

I am not a 100% sure on this. But isn't the Oil Change Monitor a oil quality based system? Because mine is not consistent at all. One interval will be 3000 miles when i spend more time on trails and city driving, or when i drive mostly on the highway the interval is about 5500.
Does any know this for sure? or does everyones oil message come at 6000K?

My oil message is always on and won't go away even if I follow the reset procedure in the manual...

It's "supposed" to estimate your oil quality by using an algorithm that takes into account how hard the engine works, miles, speed, etc...

But just as what was said before, it's an idiot light for people that don't have a set maintenance schedule. Stick with your schedule and you'll be fine.
