I'm hoping someone here can answer a couple of questions regarding my 2012 Liberty. It's a real pain to access the oil filter and when I'm under the vehicle, it seems that there is a plastic oil drip channel in the way of easier access to the filter. What is this plastic thing called when I search for images and how can it be removed? I see one bolt for sure; how many am I looking for and do those bolts that hold the channel in place serve any other purpose that prevents removing it?

Any pictures on how to remove (if it can be) would be great.

Thank you

There is a piece that funnels the oil from the filter down across the diff so that if oil is spilled it just doesn't go everywhere
Its suppose to be there, removing it could in fact make a larger mess when removing the filter

Yeah, mine got somehow misplaced after a rack and pinion change. It's a huge mess now. On the upside, front axle should never rust now.....

I'm okay with the bigger mess as oil filter access is so bad, I make a big mess anyway. Do you know what it takes to remove it?

Thanks!

I believe it's attached onto your front differential cover bolts.

Have you tried taking off the grill and driver side headlight to access the oil filter?

The oil filter drip tray is held in place by one of the front diff cover bolts and then a small screw on the driver's side of that hunk of metal in front of the diff cover that bolts to the diff itself.
