Post subject:  Leaky Fuel Rail connection

Have a 2011 Jeep Libert 4x4 sport, Recently out camping with my kids and the wife. Got a bit colder than expected and she ended up holed up in the jeep with my 2 year old. Probably around 35-40 degrees at worst. Let it idle to warm up, got in about 20 minutes later threw on the heater and smelt a very strong odor of gasoline.

Being on the safe side we got out, I checked for any obvious leakage or strong odors outside and nothing that we could tell. Turned her on and threw it into recirc with no odor.

Got back into town, checked for smells with the kids out and nothing obvious like it had been when warming the jeep up. I live in Phoenix so it's on the warmer side in town here. Even turning on the heater here in town right whens starting her up theres no obvious odor.

Checked fuel line from gas tank, no obvious leaks/ stains or smells, Checked engine compartment, Right rail connection from the line looks like leakage.

I'm wondering why there isn't a smell that I can tell when I'm in the city with Ac/ Heater. I even tried to get a whiff near the apparent problem and I couldn't smell anything. Was it just dumping gas when I was idling to warm it up?

I'm guessing the fix shouldn't be too difficult. I searched online for "guides" for replacement to give me a rough idea and couldn't find anything specific to the KK.

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

If that were my KK id probably seal her up. But if I were you id buy a new fuel rail at the dealer level, not an aftermarket or used one.

From your photo it looks like the problem could be the connection from the rubber fuel delivery hose, rather than the metal fuel rail itself. Can't totally see that connection because something is in the way, but a cracked rubber gasket at the connection point is more likely than a cracked metal fuel rail, IMO. Should also be cheaper to fix too.

Thanks for suggestions, Here is a better picture.

Pahoward, any suggestions for safe sealants? Think I may lean on the safe side and just replace the connector?

Think I may just grab a new connector for the fuel line to rail to start.

I went out to my Jeep to check, and confirmed my suspicions. You are missing some sort of clip that holds the high pressure hose tight onto the fuel rail junction. It's not a very good photo because I took it in the dark, but...

:BINGO:

Wonder if I can grab a new clip or if I'll need to redo the connector.

Thx dude!

Lfh, not sure if its an 08 KK thing but mine doesn't have that either.

OP, idle the jeep and look for the seeping point. Replace part thats seaping. If it seaps right at the quick connect press it into the fuel rail. Still leaking, replace.

Its a bit hard to tell because of the steel mount for the rail just below, Seems to drip and pool there. I'm a bit worried its the rail itself.

Any idea where I can get the barbed connection piece that specific to the rail? I'm assuming there's o rings in there that go bad?

Just an update here, Removed it all between another connect in the engine bay running towards the rail.

Rail looks great! Replaced the hose and fitting and everything looks good. Probably wont know for sure until I start it again on a cold morning which wont be for awhile here in Phoenix.

Glad to hear it was an easy fix. Hopefully that did the trick!
