So I have an 08 Liberty Limited with the sky slider, which hasn't worked since I bought it.

I got the sky slider to work one night when I was working on it. All I had to do to get it to work was open the sky slider manually by turning the motor using an allen key. After that I got it to open and close a few times in both directions using the buttons, then it just stopped working.

Since then I have not been able to get it to open at all other than doing it manually. Once I have opened it manually, I can get it to close by using the buttons. It is also worth noting that It now only opens to the rear of the vehicle.

When I try and operate the motor that is supposed to open it to the front, the cable moves, but the sky slider does not, which leads me to believe that the cable came detatched from the sky slider somehow. I assume this came detatched on the night that I got it working, Because that is when it stopped opening to the front.

I would really appeciate any insight into this problem. My guess is that there is some kind of safety mechanism preventing it from opening, because I know for a fact it works since I can open it manually.

If the rig thinks the rear part is open, the switches will only control the rear part of the slider.
My guess is since the rear open moves the cable, and the front open does not work, the rig thinks the rear part is open.
Try pulling on the rear of the top toward the rear, while someone operates the front open button.
If the track is dirty and causing to much drag, the anti-pinch feature will stop the top from moving when operating the auto-open 1 touch. If you hold the open button the anti-pinch feature is disabled.
You will need to find out why the cable moves without the roof. My guess is it either came loose or broke the pin.

FYI
Roof Initialization Procedure:

Start the Liberty;
With roof closed: Push and hold the roof switch center button for more than 20 seconds and do not release until the following is complete:
Front of Roof will Close (Then Stall)
Rear of Roof will Close (Then Stall)
Rear of Roof will Open
Rear of Roof will Close
Rear of Roof Vents (approx two inches)
Front of Roof will Open
Front of Roof will Close
Rear of Roof Closes from Vent

Glad I only have a sunroof in my rig...

Hi Travis85904,

I’m sorry to hear about your Sky Slider concern on your Liberty. I did some research into the behavior, and may have found a Technical Service Bulletin for something similar. Your certified Jeep dealer will be able to best assess if this is a relevant bulletin to your vehicle and if any future steps are necessary. Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

So I tried having someone try to open the roof while I was pushing down on the rear part and had no luck. I have already tried the roof initialization thing about a thousand times, and I believe that was part of how I got the thing working last year.

Do you know if TSB 08-001-10 had been done to your ride?
It is an earlier TSB then the one Anna posted.

The customers may experience the Sky Slider Sunroof will not open under normal

DTC set B2206 VIN mismatch.
If the sunroof is open and in this condition, it will only respond to sunroof
switch button presses that move the sunroof in the closed direction.

A dealer should be able to tell you if the above TSBs have been done.
But first things first. You need to locate the cable retainer and see why the cable is moving without the top moving. This may be the key to the problem.

Did you ever figure out what was wrong and get this fixed?

I think I am having the same issue. I've had the thing for 2 months and the roof is jammed open. You can hear the motor running and something moving back and forth but the top corners won't budge
