Post subject:  Tires questions (Type not size!)

Hi all
I'm looking at getting a new set of tires for the jeep. I currently have the copper discover atp and no matter what I do they're wearing incredibly uneven.

I have a strict budget of $600 installed
Anyone have any suggestions? Wish I could afford the duratrac but they're out of my price range for now.
245 75 16 is my current size and I'd like to stay there

People have had good things to say about the General Grabber AT2. It's an aggressive looking tire with good performance and a lower price tag. I don't have experience with that one myself but it's one of the tires I would be looking at if I were on a budget.

TireRack has them for $143 each at the moment. I would suggest Load Range C if you can get it, because an E is heavier and will give you a harsher ride in a Jeep that is lighter weight vs. a full size truck, which is what it's designed for.

I actually ran a set of these back before 100k and I really liked them. Can't believe I forgot about those. Thank you

Also there is Hankook Dynapro ATM's, I ran them awhile back and was pleased with them considering the cost. Personally I'd get those before the grabber at2's. I've had those in the past as well, the were toast in 20k miles but did well in the snow.

I really like the look of the hankook. Guess I'll be going down to the tire shop over the weekend to talk about these options with them. See what they recommend for our roads locally

I , myself, am a huge fan of Yokohama Geolandr A/T's. Their new version has G015 thrown in there somewhere. I have had them on every vehicle I have ever owned, haha.

They are not the most aggressive looking all terrain tire but I think they still look far better than highway tires, all season tires, etc. They do awesome in the snow (they have a severe snow duty rating now) which is huge for me. I don't hardly ever have to use 4-wheel drive with these tires. Just a couple weeks ago where I live in NY had 18 inches of snow in 3 days. The Jeep with these tires had no trouble at all and I was driving around in it on purpose just having fun.

I used to have a really old beat up 2WD Ford Ranger. If you've ever had one of them you must understand how incredibly bad they are in snow , haha. You fish tail everywhere non-stop even with hundreds of pounds of sand in the bed. Before I put Yokohama's on it I couldn't even make it up the hill where I lived. haha

And these tires got me in trouble with my Mazda Tribute (Rebadged Ford Escape) because they do so well that I became way over confident and accidentally slid it off the road in the middle of nowhere on a seasonal road on my way to go ice fishing haha. That was quite a day and I had to shovel my way out of 3 feet of accumulated snow that time. Broke a rear axle shaft getting her out and cracked a radiator hose too but it was not the tires' fault, haha. It was my over confident joy :)

They do good on the highway and aren't too noisey, too. And while I have no experience with other A/T tires... their offroad traction is perfect for me. I drive on rough seasonal roads just to go fishing multiple times a week and they have never let me down in mud.

The only bad thing I have to say of them is at least the older versions would start cupping within a year. My Dad says the same thing and they sell them to customers at the dealership he works at very regularly. Otherwise, they are a great tire, and I am hoping with the new version that I own , the cupping won't happen so quickly.
