So I filled my factory storage bin to the point where I always had to have the "bin" side up which I got annoyed with very quickly. I thought about cutting it off until I came across this post viewtopic.php?f=104&t=82835

This gave me the idea to build a new storage floor. I used the measurements that where in the above mentioned post (29" length by 36" wide) and came up with this design on SketchUp

Image

Then I followed (most) of the floor removal instructions to get to this point.

Got the basic frame put together and also had some dynamat laying around so I put a layer of that down for good measure.

Next I had to decide how I wanted my compartment layout to look. The lock box is a homemade gun safe for my concealed carry in the rare times its not on me (sorry if they're any anti gun people on here)

Image

Made some brackets to keep it in place.

Here it is all put together minus the top. Measurements are 29" long by 36" wide by 4.5" deep.

For the top, I just measured the space where the factory floor would have been and did about a quarter inch over hang on the fixed parts of the top to conceal the led light strips and used 3 basic door hinges from Menards.

Once it was all finished up I decided to just rattle can the entire thing black and carpet the lid. I also got a couple cabinet door struts off Amazon to hold the lid open. Unfortunately they are a tad too weak but I do have to cut down the lid a little more and re carpet it so I am hoping that I shave off enough weight that they will work. If not I will order a couple more. So here is the final product as it sits. I still need to add a switch and wire up the LEDs

Glad to see members utilizing my "how to"!

This is a pretty cool mod dude! Definitely a handy mod for off road items.

That's really awesome! A much better use of space than the original design!!! Nice work!

That is awesome, my storage mod is almost identical except only have small openings as the fridge slide is on the left and the drawers are on the right. If I didn't have those your setup would be perfect! There's a lot of space to be gained under there. Well done.
