I have 2012 with a little over 80000 miles. Dealership still does oil changes, 4 left, with synthetic blend. As soon as the 4 oil changes are up I am going to synthetic, probably mobil 1 as i use it in all my cars.
But, at 3000 miles I see about 1/2 to 1 quart of use, in street driving. Not much highway.
What miles per quart are you guys/gals getting?

I don't know about anyone else, but that seems quite high to me. Bought my 08 2 years ago with 77K miles and started using Mobil 1. Now with 95K and oil changes every 5K mine uses nothing. Have any leaks?

My 04 I bought new had over 221,000 miles and used about 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart every 3500-4000 miles at that mileage ( 221,000 ) used Moble 1 from day one in it
My 03 with 126,000 uses maybe little less than 1/2 quart in that time
All vary somewhat on how much they use, some more some less

Ever change the PCV valve?

Also using 5w-20 in a engine designed for 5w-30 can cause oil consumption use.Of course it varies from engine to engine and city driving does not help.

The industry standard is 1qt per 1000 miles driven before they will even think about looking into what's causing it.

Havent changed PCV valve.
No leaks, other than when the dealership didnt put oil filter on tight enough..
Does this engine have cylinder delete mode for economy? I know my Silverado does, and its a known issue for some oil problems.

Do your check the level right after an oil change? My dealer was doing my changes for a wile, and I was having the same problem, I thought... I checked it when I got home after the last one they did and it was low. Now I do my own changes.

Never thought to check after the oil change. That would sad, disturbing, if a dealership is not filling it up.

What led me to check it was I was going on a 200 mile trip and it was low. This was only 2000 miles after the dealer changed it. I thought to myself that a new rig should not be using that much oil...
Next oil change...(forgot to check, it slipped my mind.)
Once again, I was going on a longer trip and decided to check it. Again it was low(1000 miles after change). I added 1/2 -3/4 quart. And off I went. When I got back the level was fine. I then checked it every week till my next oil change. Always fine, maybe down just a hair. No more the I would consider normal.
After the next change I checked it when I got home. 1/2-3/4 quart low. :banghead:

Now mind you, I do have an 07, but I only have 83K miles on it...
Since I started doing my own changes all has been fine.

Dang, next time I will check before I leave the dealership.. That way they will see it was wrong. Dont they have machines that autofill volume selected?

Yep, they only work if they are calibrated correctly. I also don't think they accounted for the filter... Ie start the engine, shut down and recheck level.

I always check oil after starting it. Let it settle, look for leaks, then check..
