The cold weather has set in and I'm not sure I want to be prying plastic panels loose when it's -20C.

I've been trying to find some ways of attaching tie-downs in the rear cargo area of my 2008 KK and have found nothing. I'm not too fussy what kind of tie downs they are, as long as they're better than the junk plastic ones they come with. I could do D-rings, E-track or the airline track, but the problem I run into with all of those is how to solidly attach them to that plastic tray. Even if you take off the trim piece by the rear door, or the piece that folds when the rear seats get folded down, there's no way to get my hands underneath to attach washers or nuts. I have all kinds of tie-downs on my ol' YJ. It's infuriating that there don't seem to be any options for the Liberties. Look forward to any ideas / suggestions! |

On the floor; Remove the reversible storage tray. Set the plastic tie-down clips upright. Pry out the plastic piece that runs from the front clip to the rear one. Now you can access the bolts to the plastic clips to remove them. Replace with metal "D" rings. It would be easier to access the tie-down clip bolts and nuts if you remove the whole storage area... To remove the floor storage; Set rear seats down forward. Unclip the flexible gap panel behind the rear seats by lifting the rearward end up (held in place by clips). At the rear outer corners of the storage area are 2 nuts on studs. Remove the nuts, lift the rear of the floor storage area up and slide it rearward. The front of the storage area is held in place by "L" brackets that slide into a slot. |

Awesome, thanks! I will give those both a try soon. Do you need to also remove the side panels in the cargo area to get the tray out? They seemed to "swoop" in to cover it. |

You don't have to remove the side panels completely. You will have to get the rear corners loose to access the tray bolts in the rear corners. Remove the side tie downs, Pull the bottom cover (by hatch) up (clips) and pull the top headliner rear strip down(clips). This will allow more flex in the side panels. Sorry I forgot that step before. |

Sorry I forgot that step before. i know this is old, but what was the purpose of removing the cargo tray for you Scar0? im considering removing the tray to gain a few more inches of storage for camping stuff. likely building a drawer system this winter for camping and such. storage underneath would be for tools and recovery gear. maybe even a small folding table. can i build a platform from exisiting studs under the tray? or is the effort not worth the reward and just build on top of the tray? thank you! |

I had a bag of concrete in the back and it busted open. The lye in the concrete will eat up paint and metal real quick. Had to get in there and clean it out. |
