Hello everyone,

To be clear, I DO NOT have a sunroof.

2008 Liberty KK. I noticed one morning after it had rained all night some water leaking from my ceiling in the trunk area. I thought I had fixed the problem by removing and replacing the gasket but apparently not. After a while, I began noticing some stains on the ceiling in the trunk along the back, but not the sides. I later installed some aftermarket roof rails (ATH Fabrication, which I love). Some time after that, I started getting heavy stains on the sides and back of my ceiling and just recently noticed a lot of water on my passenger floor and it is beginning to smell musty in my Jeep.

I would love some input and advice. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Thanks guys!

Check the hatch hinges for bad seal and corrosion.
Also drop the back part of the headliner and look at the antenna gasket.

Also check the places where the sheet metal is supposed to join together. If the silicone was not properly applied at the factory or if it has come apart with age, this can cause leaks. Specifically:
- in the upper corners above the tailgate opening
- across the top of the tailgate opening
- under the roof rack feet, near the studs

I used 3M 5200 Marine sealer when I found cracks or unsealed junctions in all these areas, and it stopped my roof leaks.

I had the exact same leaking problem. Driver side sheet metal under the roof rack no longer stuck together. I sealed it up and the leak is gone! Take a look, if it’s like mine, I spotted it once I got the roof rack off because I could press on the sheet metal and squeeze water out of the join.

Totally agree with this. I also had moisture at the rear tailgate. Removed the factory rack and black strip then fitted Rhino-Rack alloy track riveted down onto marine adhesive sealer. Result is the ultimate roof rack mount and no more moisture.

Sealed rivets must be used or water will be pouring in! As these are so tough to compress a powered rivet tool is a must.
