Hi,

I noticed that my factory installed fuel tank skid plate on the 08 KK is starting to rot out, was going to replace with an exact replacement from mopar, has anyone done this before? It almost looks like it is holding the tank in place, is there any other mounting hardware for the tank or does that have to come down too for skid plate replacement. The factory instructions for the plate don't mention removing anything so I wasn't sure.

Thanks in advance

Scott

Here’s the thread I followed when I installed the gas tank skid.

Unfortunately PhotoBucket is blocking the pics but you can still get a lot from the text.

It does hold the gas tank up, so when replacing it, you can use ratchet straps to hold up the tank. It helps to do this job with the gas tank almost empty, and you can use your tire jack as a third arm to lift the skid plate up into place. Details are in the thread.

Thanks lfhoward I appreciate it, that post is very helpful, do you think I should be concerned about the plastic fuel lines being brittle or are they generally durable?

Thanks

That's a good question. My Jeep was maybe 4 years old when I put the gas tank skid on, and I had no issues with the plastic connectors. I imagine they need to be fairly durable because this is an off road vehicle and Jeep the company would have issues if people were losing fuel on the trail.
