Is the auto trans in an 04 4x4 Liberty the same as the auto in an 09 Liberty 4x4? Both are 42re Im sure but not sure if the electrical controls/sensors are a plug and play.

I searched for an automatic transmission for a 2008 Liberty 4x4 (my year) on Car-Part.com to see what came up. Car-Part seems to be pretty good in terms of compatibility information among the years. It came back with transmissions ranging from 2005-2012. I believe that year range matches up to exclude the earliest version of the Liberty, the 02-04. I’m not sure what the physical difference is or why the 02-04 was excluded. |

Must be a basstard year, lol. I was going to get it as a backup since its rebuilt and only $350. Guy wrecked the Liberty so didnt use it long. It does have a regular dipstick. It has a weird looking front pump, smooth instead of ribbed with a bolt on front pump cover. |
