Post subject: | HELP!!!!! |
I posted this in the tech section as well but need assistance! Driving around today my 2011 kk just randomly died while driving didn't sputter just quit. Has power and cranks but wont fire. Check for vapor lock, checked for fuel rail pressure. I filled up the tank probably 30 miles before this. The guy that towed me said it sounds like it was turning over too easy and could be the timing chain. To me it doesn't sound like its turning any easier than it did before. No leaks no check engine light. It's at the garage now but would like to avoid costly repair. Any help would be greatly appreaciated. Codes are attached ![]() Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

171/174 codes just mean the engine is running lean and not by choice and with a injector code that is the 1st place I would look.Wiring,PCM,or injector could be the issue. |

On top of what tjkj2002 said, is it possible the fuel you just got had water in it? |

I checked to make sure cylinder 1 had spark, it did. Late last night I went and got some dry gas to see if that would help it out. Will try to start it this morning. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

Update, fuel rail now does not have pressure. I do not hear the fuel pump either. Checked fuses to make sure no electrical issue, all fuses look good, anything else I should check to make sure it's the pump and are there any threads on replacing one of these? Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

Here’s a YouTube video of the fuel pump change on a Dodge Nitro. It’s exactly the same fuel tank in the KK Liberty. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zEj0lbuCyHA |

The gas tank is ok to detach and work on if it’s close to empty (I know because I installed the fuel tank skid plate), but if it’s full it is going to be pretty heavy and very hard to lower safely! Siphon into another vehicle with an almost empty tank? Nobody has a 19 gallon gas can laying around... |

Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk If you suspect fuel pump then something you can try, and it likely will only work once, is to have someone crank the engine and you smack the tank with a rubber mallet or something similar. Have done this for years with pretty good success. As I said though it only typically works one time. If it starts and runs it should rule out bad gas. |

I tried smacking the tank yesterday but didn't have any luck. Also its 28° outside right now. None of the fittings want to come off. Very frustrating. Any tricks or tips would be helpful Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

Did you try swapping a couple ? I’m sure you could check for power at least as far as the relays in the fuse block too if you had a wiring diagram. Sure sounds like bad fuel or pump as others stated as well. |

Otherwise you will get pretty good at replacing that pump. |

yeah i will be testing some electrical connections tonight after work. i found some corroded wires that power the fuel pump, ill check for 12 volts there and ill also connect the fuel pump to the battery directly to see if it runs. I'll either cut out the bad spot of wiring and reconnect it or add new with a new loom. the replay that controls the fuel pump also controls the accessories, my accessories work so i was assuming that relay was good to go. |

Tank is out. Due for a bath. After draining the gas I didn't see any water in it, so that's a good sign. I ordered the pump from 1a auto Sunday morning. I hope it's not as cheap as tjkj is saying. This is not a fun project. ![]() Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

Found the issue last night. The loom was melted and looked partially chewed through, probably from the driveshaft, and the wiring finally quit out. Made a new connection, wrapped in tape and new wire loom. Looks brand new. Glad I didn't go to a shop, would have charged me for a new fuel pump and wouldn't have ever told me about this free fix. Pump works fine, I'll probably just hold onto the new pump. How long is a fuel pumps life normally? 120k? ![]() Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |
