Before the build.
I purchased this for a grand. It was in a crash with front end damage. Everything from the grill to the front of the block is new. I took it out for a spin seen here in the pictures and liked it so I proceeded on with my overland build. I really like it so far.

Here is the start of it all. I cut away the cross member and welded in a nice chunk of steel for the winch to have a good foundation.

It has a 4" JBA lift kit but after all the extra poundage it sacks out the "upgraded springs" i took it to a scale station to get the weaight front half total and back half. Im trying to figure out a new spring weaight to install. It bottoms out now so i made up some bump stops to aid in the bottoming. You can see it in one of the pictures. Well I hope you like it

Nice work resurrecting that KK from its accident! :frankie:

This is the first time I’ve seen an exo-cage on a KK! Can’t wait to see it all finished with light bar, roof top tent, etc. :D

With the extra weight sagging out your 4” JBA springs, send an email or call up Marlin at JBA to see if he has anything stronger. He makes a 6” lift for the KJ and also kits for WK’s with V8’s up front, so he may be able to hook you up. The CRD also has a heavier engine so he may have a spring for that too.

any plans for cleaning up the where the fenders bolt on? is it possible to cut and fold like an XJ?

Still working on the fenders, I have a few ideas but i want to build a small rack in front of the roof tent to have things handy when up in it like a fan or heater that way its outside and not in the tent. A small cooler for drinks etc. a switch for the porch lights so i can turn them on and off from inside the tent. Lockers and gears are the next thing to go on it, That and heavier springs. The ones on it now are sacked out now that i have most everything on it.
I wanted to build it on the cheap so i did all the metal work myself built the front and rear bumpers, front fender and exo cage for the tent and lights. most of the work is under the car for all the support structure for the bumpers and rock rails. I used a heavy 1/2" thick X 3" steel plate to strengthen the uni body frame as well as to add as a strong mounting points. I'm also cutting away more of the fender areas to stop the tire rubbing on tougher trails. I'm lucky to have this as my fun toy, Not a daily driver at all Just a get out for the weekend when needed off road toy. Cutting up a car to do whatever you want to it without a care in the world is a ton of fun as well. :D :JEEPIN:

This is a very sweet build. Great work so far. If the rest is done with equal care as what I see thus far, it will be one fun toy! Good job.
